Absolutely stunning. Can’t wait to see the secret goodies. I’m stilling hoping for a true Event-Calendar and true multilingual content support. Yes Yes, I know, everyone needs something else 😉

But for the rest, excellent job you did there. Accessories and jquery effects are very useful enhancements. Love the revamped CP panel, especially the full screen editing mode. Kudos to Veerle Peters for the new cp template.

Ok, I guess I will try this again.

The new control panel is great, I think most of us agree.  But I also know that a lot of us have been waiting with baited breath for 2.0, not for a new control panel, but because (we hope) it will come with a full scale ecommerce module.  This has to be the most requested feature, at least from what I’ve seen.  Will there be a module ready for 2.0 when it comes out?

I’m guessing that I am not the only one wondering about this - so here goes:  what’s the word on ecommerce?  Will there be a module ready for 2.0 when it debuts?

I’m a bit surprised too that no one else has mentioned this in the various 2.0-related threads I’ve read through this week. Given the number of threads about a full e-commerce module (and e-commerce alternatives while we wait), I would agree that it’s the most requested feature… Even Rick mentioned it in this thread:

If I could magically make a commerce system appear I would.  It’s been the single most requested item, and one that I believe will be very successful for us.

That said, given EL’s history/policy on answering “when” questions, I don’t necessarily expect a definite answer, but there’s no inkling of it whatsoever from the community.

Actually, it was mentioned during the SXSW preview panel, as alluded to here.

This question did come up at the Q&A;so I’ll answer it here as well. Here is the short answer. No commerce with 2.0 launch. But after 2.0 its just about top of the priority list. As we mentioned in the Q&A;the commerce module is more than just a highly requested feature its functionality that would benefit us internally as well. And that’s about all you’re going to get out of any of us on the subject 😊

Thanks for the clarification Leslie! While not what I personally was hoping for it’s still encouraging, even if that’s all we’re going to get from you. 😉

I’m sorta worried…how much re-memorising will I need to do of the control panel?

...It looks nifty but I pref. to use the eyes on the computer for “important” stuff…so…umm…yeah. Just a little worried. OK, very worried. Is the accessibility going to change?

Bobby, as I mention in the sneak preview video, this is just one of the themes we will offer with 2.0, and third party developers will no doubt begin offering their own themes as well.  We are taking care to keep visually impaired people in mind, and overall the markup for 2.0’s themes is bit more straightforward, and hopefully you will find them all just as easy, or easier to use.

Congrats about the fabulous work which you did with EE2.0. However, I must admit that the most important sentence which I read in the sneak preview was:

ExpressionEngine 2.0 will be built with CodeIgniter as its new underlying architecture.

May you give us (if you didn’t already) some explanation about the general concept of this architectural change and especially the migration 1.6.x > 2.0?

Edit: anyway, I just found the Derek’s post. 😊

Thanks, Derek. Organised code pwns them all, it really does. If I have to do a lot of memorising I’d rather do it with something organised…

    Bring on 2.0!

The EE future looks bright indeed… wow, great sneak peek of the CP!  Congrats to all involved in the process of making EE 2.0 a reality.  I’m sure that many many hours have gone into it already.  I’ve only built one EE site so far, but your efforts over the past 1+ years on 2.0 give me lots of incentive to build more.

Most of what I had hoped for with a new CP seems to be there.  I particularly appreciate the revamped edit mode for Content (easy tab creation, dragging, dropping, and rearranging fields, etc).  I will admit, however, that I had hoped for even more content layout flexibility (I suppose it’s human nature to want more, sorry…).  For example, I’d really love an option to specify how much width a particular field should occupy in the CP.  For weblogs with many “short” custom fields, I would like to be able to specify some fields as full width, some as 1/2 width, and others as 1/4 width; ideally one would be able to graphically drag a corner handle to resize the field, which would snap to fixed increments (as well as a setting for those who prefer a non-graphical option).  Combined with tabs, this would greatly improve the data entry experience for users updating sites that require many and varied custom fields. Such users would no longer have to scroll downward so much and related fields could be more logically/spatially arranged.  This kind of interface flexibility would also take better advantage of big widescreen monitors, which are getting cheaper by the day.  Hey, one can dream.  Maybe for EE 2.1? or for a CI whiz?

I’m looking forward to the revealing of further goodies before launch this summer.  My fingers are crossed that they’ll include revamped file upload,  gallery, and calendar (dang that human nature! it just can’t ever be fully satisfied 😉  ).

    Thanks again!

    Wow! Simply cannot wait!

The Ajax stuff is lovely and integrating into bits and pieces will be a enjoyable adventure.

As mentioned by others also eagerly waiting some kind of e-comm system, even if its in 2.1, great job.

Congrats to all involved so far.
