I watched the video today…awesome stuff there.

One question, I am an owner of v1.6.3, will there be seperate pricing for us current users vs. new users?

Will it be easy to update my current site from v1.6.3 to v2.0?

    From the FAQ:

How much will ExpressionEngine 2.0 cost?

ExpressionEngine has had the same price for over three years. During that time the capability of the application has vastly increased, the number of modules more than doubled, and our development and support team has grown much larger.  While our final pricing decisions have not been made, we expect that there will be a modest price increase.  For those users who own an existing ExpressionEngine license, your license status will be taken into consideration when upgrading.

What can I do to get ready for ExpressionEngine 2.0?

We intend to make upgrading from 1.6.3 to 2.0 as smooth and seamless as possible. You can prepare by updating your existing ExpressionEngine installation to the latest release, which is 1.6.3. When ExpressionEngine 2.0 is released we will make any additional steps necessary for the upgrade available in the User Guide in our usual thorough fashion.

Thanks for the link!  EE 2.0 looks fabulous!
Am using EE 1.6 and was considering migrating my blog to WP; but will wait till I experience EE 2.0

    Arun,

I wouldn’t switch from EE to WP.  I think you will find WP to not be as flexible and EE 2.0 looks more user friendly.

Just wondering… if you are using EE 1.6 then why are you considering moving to WP? Have you had problems with EE or something?
    Hopefully not?

    Best wishes,

    Mark

Can’t answer for Arun, but for myself, the allure of WP is that everyone else I know is using it (as well as nearly every blog/site I visit on a regular basis), and that one of the plugins that they have that I really want (Viddler Video Commenting Plugin) is something that I can’t see any easy way of getting to work in EE.

Also, because my budget is extremely limited, I feel like getting excited about EE 2.0 does me no good. There’s no way I’m going to be able to buy it (I can’t even afford the multi-site add-on, which I could really use), so why get excited? I understand all of the arguments about how EE is a better product, and I agree with most of them, but WP’s price-point fits much more nicely into my budget (which is basically $0).

I am afraid no further information as to the actual release cycle is available yet. And, just for the record, “summer” in the calendrical sense does not end before the September Equinox.

ExpressionEngine 2.0 is built on CodeIgniter.

    CI 1.6.0 Changelog…

MySQL driver now requires MySQL 4.1+

Guess EE 2.0 requirements will also need upgraded from MySQL 3.23.32

CodeIgniter requires 4.1+, so it’s very likely.
