As some of you may have realized from blog and Twitter posts from community participants, we launched phase 1 of the ExpressionEngine 2.0 Beta this past Sunday afternoon.  Over 250 individuals and firms were invited to the first round of testing, consisting of third party developers who took part in the developer preview, a.k.a. Kaylee, all of our Pro Network members, and individual invitations from various events, such as last year’s EE Roadshow.

Our Pro Network members have a private forum to talk shop and connect with one another.  All in all it’s relatively quiet.  And the third-party developers in our community are largely self-sufficient and brilliant individuals, so during the developer preview, the Kaylee mailing list was also relatively quiet.  So when you take both of those groups of people, and add a few dozen others, it’s still going to be relatively quiet, right?

Now is a good time to laugh at me and my wildly miscalculated ideas.  Wildly, wildly miscalculated.

I also want to add my public appreciation to the test group. The type of feedback we’re getting is exactly what we hoped for. I’ve gone through a lot of betas with EllisLab, all the way back to the pM Pro days and I have to agree with Jones, this is easily the most successful beta we’ve ever had and we’re only 48 hours in.

Glad to see that you’re taking the beta seriously. “Web 2.0” brought a lot of great ideas but buggy services or applications and I’m happy EE2 won’t be one of these. I’m using EE for personnal project, will soon be in my professional work and can’t wait to see what you’ve been cooking up 😊

If you need some more feedback, you know my mail address 😉

Do you guys have even a rough estimation as to when you plan to launch 2.0?  I have help projects back for a while now waiting on this launch…some as far back as 2 years now 😊...that’s what I get for waiting.

Anyhow, really excited for the new system and can’t wait to dive back in.

    Derek,

Thanks for such a great post I really enjoyed reading that one although I must admit that I was a little scared that you might be about to say that you were going to shut everything down as us testers are a hard lot to please 😉

Glad that’s not the fact though. I’m sure that ExpressionEngine 2.0 is going to be fantastic as you have an awesome development team creating a fantastic product and on the other flip side a fantastic bunch of testers too. Only great things can come from this.

Oh by the way can you tell me what I can do to get my other 480 points for getting the bear correct? I see that I won 20 points but I really really want that remote controlled helicopter!! 😉

    You tease you!!

    Best wishes,

    Mark

@seth, you haven’t seriously put off work, have you?  I can’t count the number of times we’ve stressed to people to use what’s available now.  You only hurting yourself financially and mentally by delaying such projects.  If the project is a good fit for EE 2.0, it will also be a good fit for the existing version.

@Mark oh I’m sure I’ll think of something.

Yep I thought so. I just hope I don’t have to keep on going up in batches of 20 or I’ll be an old man before I get to 500! 😉

@derek it’s all been personal projects.  no money lost. 😊  It’s mostly been to upgrade and expand existing projects or new ideas.

Having participated in past betas (Like Les, back to pmPro), I always found the most interesting part was watching the bug tracker. I might have found a few but certain people just seem to have a knack for digging in and finding stuff deep within the system. Also fun watching as issues get resolved.
Was also amazed at how fast things got resolved and progressed. The betas were fairly short in time. Don’t imagine EE-2 will be as it’s such a major update.

Good luck all - find them bugs - deliver us a good, bug-free release.
