ExpressionEngine 7.4

2/14/2024   /   By Tom Jaeger

ExpressionEngine 7.4 comes with major member updates, Redactor X as a new addition to the Rich Text Editor (RTE) field type, substantial updates to categories, additional CLI commands, updates to channel forms, and a whole lot more!

What's new?

Member Management

A Ton of Cool things

Member Changes

Version 7.4 brings with it substantial updates to members. The member manager has been rebuilt similarly to the entry manager, now allowing for additional and more powerful ways to sort and search for members. We’ve also shipped a new Member field type, allowing you to create relationships between entries and Members.

We didn’t stop there, we also rolled ExpressionEngine’s custom fields across members, and added new and more powerful options for member template tags! Check out the video overview below!

Redactor X

Version 7.4 also brings a large update to the Rich Text Editor (RTE). Specifically with the addition of Redactor X. Redactor X is a super smooth, feature-rich, highly customizable WYSIWYG option for the RTE. It also includes a wide array of editing contexts. Check out the video on Redactor X below.

We also rolled in the ability to edit source code to the CKEditor option of the RTE.

Command Line Interface

We also took the opportunity to step the Command Line Interface (CLI) forward, with the addition of two new additional commands.

The first command:

php eecli.php sync:reindex --site_id=1

The sync:reindex command allows you to reindex your content for search from the CLI. A welcomed addition to any site that regularly imports or updates content from multiple locations other than the ExpressionEngine control panel.

The second command:

php eecli.php sync:upload-directory --upload-id=6 --manipulations=all

The sync:upload-directory command allows you to synchronize the file records in the database with the files stored in a given upload directory. You can also choose the run your preset file manipulations as part of the process.
