A modern image fieldtype bringing powerful image adjustment tools (presets, crop/aspect, focal point, responsive defaults, and art direction) to the ExpressionEngine File field, presented through a clean, focused UI.

JCOGS Image Pro Field extends the ExpressionEngine File field to enable a predictable, editor-friendly image adjustment capability within the Channel Entry publish form, and to introduce powerful new output options - making it easier than ever to build powerful and performant image handling into templates, and populate them with the “right” images.

Designed to support IRL production teams: the field gives developers full control over the image adjustment features made available to content editors; content editors in turn get a clear UI that makes it easy for them to provide superior images to support their content without their needing to think about template logic.

JCOGS Image Pro Field is a companion add-on to JCOGS Image Pro - upon which it relies for image processing and template output generation. Some features made available by the field provide a powerful alternative route to use JCOGS Image Pro’s more advanced features (such as face detection, art-direction, and use of aspect ratios to constrain image output).

What makes JCOGS Image Pro Field special?

JCOGS Image Pro Field extends the basic ExpressionEngine file field, elevating it from being “just a file picker” to become a structured set of image adjustment tools that amplify the standard image selection flow. Features enabled by the add-on include: - Preset selection – Allow content editors to attach a JCOGS Image Pro preset (constrain selection to an allowlist if required) or simply attach a developer-defined default preset to each image chosen; - Crop controls with policy optionss – Enable source image cropping. Either as an optional step, or a developer required step to ensure consistent framing; - Aspect ratio enforcement – Developers can define a list of aspect ratios that content editors can use to guide their crops, or define an aspect ratio that content editors are required to use one with a view to making layouts more predictable; - Focal point support – Let content editors set focal the focal point for an image so that crops and responsive outputs can prioritise the important part of the image - Face-detect assisted cropping – makes JCOGS Image Pro’s face detection service available during the source image cropping process - to help guide cropping workflows where portrait-style imagery is being used - Responsive defaults – Developers can define responsive behaviour for an image field within the field definition stage, providing easier configuration access to JCOGS Image Pro’s powerful srcset and sizes based responsive output capabilities - Art direction – An ExpressionEngine first! Make it easy for content editors to choose different images to use for the same image location at different viewport widths - developers can set the breakpoints, content editors provide the images, and the JCOGS Image Pro Field provides the fully formed, responsive, <picture> tag for inclusion in your template output!

What does JCOGS Image Pro Field do?

At a high level, Image Pro Field helps you standardise how images are selected and prepared, while keeping your frontend templates clean and consistent.

• A better publish experience
  Content editors choose an image and (only if allowed) use tools like crop, preset selection, and focal intent. If you disable all tools, the field reverts to a standard ExpressionEngine File field;
• Developer-controlled policy
  You decide which tools appear, whether content editors can choose a preset, whether a crop is required, which aspect ratios are available, and whether preset choices should be restricted.
• Template-led outputs
  The field normally generates its advanced image outputs automatically, but if you prefer, the field also exposes a broad collection of clear template variables (URLs, HTML, width/height, preset info, and pairs for advanced data such as art direction) so that you can build your own custom template outputs if you prefer. Either way, your templates remain the source of truth.
