Geo location add-on which uses the geoPlugin API to attempt to identify location information based on IP addresses.

Overview

This add-on provides a number of EE tags to retrieve geo location data based upon a website visitor’s IP address and retrieve location information. It can also perform a lookup on a specific IP address and find locations close to specific latitude and longitude values.

New Features for Version 2

The add-on now includes bot-detection. This feature prevents IP lookups for bots visiting your site which can result in excessive calls to the geoplugin API.

New “Is Allowed” tag: check the visitor’s IP against a list of country codes to see if they are allowed or not. Return TRUE or FALSE for use in an EE {if} tag pair

Tags

• Country Code - user’s country code based on the IP address
• Continent Code - user’s continent code based on the IP address
• Specific geo location data - retrieve one of the specific geoPlugin results
• IP Lookup - lookup geo data for a specific IP address
• Is Allowed? Supply a list of allowed country codes and the Geo Locator will return true or false if the visitor is in one of those countries.
• All geo location data
• Locations near to user’s IP location
• Locations near to latitude and longitude

Installation

Unzip the contents and copy the ip_geolocator folder into your user/addons folder. From the CP, go to your Third Party Add-ons and click “Install”

For help with the available tags and parameters visit the add-ons’s settings page. There’s also a file included with the add-on called “ip-geo-locator-test.html” which shows some example usage.
