Issue with regenerating thumbnails

How Do I?

I am having an issue when updating an image to a newer version. The thumbnail does not seem to be regenerated, even though I opted for overwriting the old image when uploading the new. And resyncing the directory only gives me option recreated my other size manipulations. Even going to the directory via FTP and deleting the thumbnail still shows the old one. Is it stored anywhere else as well?

I am using the new File Manager.

Hi Linda,

Thanks for getting in touch about this! Based on it being manually deleted in the FTP, it makes me wonder if your browser might have it cached? Any chance you can try on a computer or browser that hasn’t viewed that page before to see if your still seeing the old thumbnail?

Along these lines… it’s probably worth checking the file usage in the file details screen to confirm the file you replaced is in use on the page your viewing.

Thanks,

Tried in another browser, same there. We are using Cloudflare, but after 3 days I thought that would have been purged. Will have to check on that then if it cannot be stored anywhere else. The images have distinctive names and the new ones have the same name as the old, so I picked overwriting the old when I updated the pages. Thanks. 😊

Hi Linda,

Ah, gotcha… that could be at play for sure…. Not sure how difficult it might be.. but might be worth considering uploading the file as a new one and tying it where needed, if you need to get it live!

Thanks,

Well, caching in Cloudflare was part of the issue, most of the images now show the new version. However, two of them now show up as broken links, even though the images clearly are there on the ftp…

Possibly there’s still some caching involved, so pursuing that further. However, what I do notice is that images uploaded before I converted to the new file manager still show with a very small thumbnail in their entries, whereas new images show a larger thumbnail. Did something not get converted properly?

Hi Linda,

I’m thinking it might be worth syncing the directories to see if that will do the trick with regenerating the thumbnails.

Thanks,
