I am new to Expression Engine and I am coming from a Wordpress background. I am little server management skill. Currently, I am EXTREMELY frustrated with how difficult this “simple installation” is being.
I have installed the Expression Engine Core files on my BlueHost server while following the proper instructions per this documentation:
https://ellislab.com/expressionengine/user-guide/installation/installation.html
At first I have attempted to install the files and got a 1611 error saying that something was wrong with the controller/wizard.php file. I changed the wizard.php file’s CHMOD to 644 (which worked last time) and now I get a white screen whenever I attempt to get to this url (http://www.mannachurch.org/ExpressionEngine/admin.php). I believe it’s a PHP error per reading other posts on this site, but I have NO idea on how to fix it. And here’s my first question,
why can’t the core files of Expression Engine already come marked with the appropriate CHMOD?
anyways, I have:
I can’t even get off the ground here. I did install this sucessfully before, but I upgraded my web service to a “cloud” service and that’s when all this drama started to happen with the installation.
Can anybody please help?
Fixed it. Had my web host change the CHMOD on the admin.php file to 644 (it was originally so I have no idea why that would matter, but he said it was CHMOD 755 before).
Then when I got a database error on my controller/wizard.php file, I reset my password on my server that it was pointed to and that fixed the issue. ::Sigh:: I’m gonna take a break now…..:(
