Sadly this was no great surprise. CartThrob had been dormant for so long that the writing was on the wall.
Considering that Expresso was recently sold to DevDemon and BrilliantRetail’s last blog post was in December I think the market for ecommerce add-ons for Expression Engine has taken a particularly bad beating of late.
So it looks like DevDemon’s Expresso Store (or whatever it’s called now) is the only game in town.
I’ve been using CartThrob successfully for a few years and have even got Barrett Newton to write a custom module for me recently, for a client’s specific needs. They definitely know their stuff, so it’s massive shame that such an able piece of software could fall by the wayside. I love it’s flexibility and power, and would rather not have to migrate to another Module if I can help it. Seeing as how EE has been around for so long - and that a significant percentage of sites using EE must be Ecommerce - it’s surprising EllisLab hasn’t created a built-in tool for this functionality. I’m not expecting this for EE v3… but it would be great news if it was coming. 😊
