Hi there,

We have EE installed on a domain and we want to install another EE copy for a country. Is it better to have the fresh install as a sub-folder or a sub-domain? Can you guys let me know what are the pros and cons for both? Or please let me know if you have any better idea than this!!

Many thanks,

Sud

Hi Ahmad,

Sorry, I think I was not clear. I want to install a fresh copy of expressionengine which will be used to only manage a country specific website.

Thanks,

Sud

Have you looked into the Multiple Site Manager instead?

I agree with Boyink but wanted to offer a couple additional thoughts:

1) There are addons available which permit the translation of your existing site, if this is what you are after.

2) Your session cookies are probably going to conflict with each other for subdomain installations. You will have to take care with the cookie settings even with subdomains.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your suggestions.

My client needs to manage a separate system for the country, so there would be different pages when compared to one country site!

They are looking for domainname.com/us , so I thought to create a folder named ‘us’ in the httpdocs and upload new copy of EE! Can this be achieved with MSM as I see from docs that it only helps for sub-domains.

Many thanks,

Sud

MSM can power another domain, subdomain, or just run from a subfolder on the main domain.

The content and design can be shared, or not, as the sites require.
