track_views associated with categories

Hello all,

I am looking for a way to control my content based on user clicks/views. After a bit of searching, I found the track_views function for the entries, along with playing around with a few plug-ins that did similar things. I am wondering if there is a way to do what track_views does, but instead of tracking the individual entry, it would track the category(s) it is associated with the entry and assign a hit counter like the track_views does. I am basically looking for a way to show more of a certain category on the landing page of a blogroll, based off what the user views the most. So far, I have been unable to devise a way to connect the track_views to categories, maybe this is not the right route? Has anyone else tried to solve a similar problem? Any direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for you time!
