Painless path to Amazon S3?

I’m currently running a high-availability news website on 2.5.3 and I decided to move all the assets (about 6GB of images/audio) to an S3 bucket. Thing is, I’d like to hear your take on what’s the best procedure to do this.

Should I simply move everything and then search/replace? Is there a module/plugin to achieve this?
