File module resize script hook?

A couple of months back i wrote a custom thumbnail creation script that i implemented in the core code. The script was added to the list of options for manipulating additional images in the file upload preferences.

For obvious reasons (updates etc.), i don’t want to alter the core anymore, so i was wondering if someone know a hook i could use or other methods so i could make an extension out of it?
