Hi All,

I’m working on a site right now that allows a user to select which member group they would like to belong to at registration time. Currently, there are three groups that a user can choose from (User, Firm, or Organization). When the user selects any of the groups, I would like assign them to that group when they activate their accounts.

Is this possible? How could I accomplish this?

Thanks in advance, Lucas

Hi Lucas,

There may be a 3rd party addon available at Devot://ee to enable this kind of functionality but it could quite easily be done with a little extension using the member_member_register hook. Shall I move this thread to the Development & Programming forum for you?

Cheers

Greg

Greg,

Sweet! :cheese: Thanks for the pointers. This can definitely be moved to the Dev & Pro forum.

On the note of using the hook to develop an extension, is there anyway you could give me a little guidance on this? :wow: I am very new to EE and have never created an extension. Not really looking for someone to do it for me, but for someone to walk me through how to do it myself so that I can learn through the process.

Thanks again Greg! You’ve been very helpful already, and hopefully I’m able to figure this out with a bit more help.

Thanks, Lucas

Hi, Lucas. I went ahead and moved this for you. Unfortunately I personally can’t help, I don’t have any experience writing extensions. But there are other members of my team that do. 😊 We also have a fairly responsive community.

Have a look at the extensions development docs and download/modify a similar extension from devot-ee.com.

Hi Everybody,

Thanks Rick for your help. I was actually able to find an add-on that did exactly what I needed, Registration Codes. Thanks everyone for their assistance!
