There may be something out there that can do this already.

I want to enable membership and logins for an EE 2 site.

I want to be able to capture a profile on the user that lives in its own set of tables. I need to do this because I have a custom built application that will query that data and I have that stuff build already in SQL Server and can easily refactor to use mySQL. This could be a case where it is just as easy to query normal EE tables, I just have never done it.

the user needs to be able to login and edit their profile at anytime.

  1. Is there anything that can handle that right now? Maybe USER from solspace?
  2. If I were to write this custom, anyone know of some examples out there which would demonstrate building a form to add/edit data and then validate and save it. I have built some custom tags that return data but never adding/editing so want to make sure I follow best practice.

Any advice would be appreciated - thanks!
