Integration with Third Party Content System

Development and Programming

I’d be interested in thoughts around the feasibility of combining EE with a third party content system.

A client currently uses a Digital Asset Management (DAM) system. The DAM is used by a number of people within the business to add images and other content. The DAM can be extended to function as a provider of content to other systems, and has an API to facilitate.

The client would like to ‘plug’ the DAM content into their company website.

Content would be created and stored in the DAM. Content to show up on the website would be flagged in the DAM, and pulled through into EE. The content would be stored in regular EE channels, and work with EE goodness in all other aspects.

The reason to use EE is to provide an powerful presentation layer that designers are comfortable working with, and for the EE back end to provide editorial control. We also want to employ DRY principles.

A crude high level workflow would be:

  • Content created in DAM and flagged for website.
  • EE custom plugin pulls through content into EE and content is staged by default (not published).
  • Website Editor makes changes to the content EE, if required, and published so live on site.

There would also need to be functionality to pull through into EE existing content updated in the DAM (perhaps as a new version).

I would be interested in peoples thoughts on such an approach.

Thanks.

This might depend on what the other application is capable of outputting, but off the cuff these two add-ons might be of interest:

Thanks, Boyink! I was aware of REST but datagrab is new to me, and seems well worth a look.
