I use Coda for most development and I love it… but I’m curious about how other devs code their addons. Does anyone use an IDE like Eclipse or Netbeans? Is there a way to set these up so they give you code hints? I miss that back from my flash development days in Flex :(

Due to the way that CodeIgniter (the framework powering ExpressionEngine) is built, it’s really difficult to provide code hints. There’s a plugin for CodeLobster that looks pretty good that provides CodeIgniter support. Whether or not that’ll support ExpressionEngine I don’t know.

I’ve never been a fan of IDEs and use TextMate; the best Mac text editor! It does the job for me 😊

I’ve had excellent luck with BBEdit’s code completion. Adding in ctags (http://thenerdary.net/articles/entry/ptags) helps quite a bit too and can make it quite powerful.
