Email class set to ’html’. Does it send multipart by itself?

Hi there,

Sorry this isn’t as such a support request so please do feel free to move it but I have a post here - http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/181663/ in which I’m asking how to send multipart emails using the Email Class.

I’m now just wondering though does ExpressionEngine perhaps send a plain text version of the email anyway if you use the html setting in the class?

I really need to send a html email but obviously want users to see something if they have html turned off in their email clients so was just wondering if perhaps ExpressionEngine does this anyway when the class is set to html?

Thanks for any help on this.

Best wishes,

Mark

Hi, Mark. When you go into the Communicate module, and change to HTML, you’ll see an additional field to put in plain text. Not sure about the pure code parts, though.

Does that help?

Hi Sue,

This is for ExpressionEngine 1.7.0. I believe that image might be 2.0?

I was more interested in the Email Class though from the Developer documentation though.

I’m just wondering if when you send an email using the class and you have the mailtype=”html” does it automatically create a plain text version of the email too?

Best wishes,

Mark

Mark, this is “Development and Programming“… isn’t that what you’re after, the “Email Class from the Developer documentation”?

Yep it is. Sorry was just being a bit childish I guess. I will patiently await an answer.

Best wishes,

No moderators or Dev’s want to give me a nudge on this one? 😉

Hi Mark,

I ran into this one while building boomerang. After you set the mail type, you can actually pass two parameters into the message method.

$email->message($html_email, $txt_email);

Hi Tom,

Thanks for that. Is this documented anywhere?

Best wishes,

Mark

Hiya,

No Problem man, anytime. I don’t believe it is.

Many thanks again for the heads up on that one. It’s a real shame that more of this isn’t documented. Would save us all a whole heap of time and trouble where this sort of thing is required.

Best wishes,

Mark
