How to get the latest version?

Should this file always have the latest version of EE2? http://expressionengine.com/eeversion2.txt
The core acc.expressionengine_info.php accessory checks that file to get the latest version of EE. But, currently that URL is out of date. It shows 2.1.0 as the latest even though 2.1.1 is available.
Just wanted to see if this is the best way to get the latest version or if there is a more reliable way?

The file referenced in the accessory is now incorrect, and will be fixed up for the next release. Check out _version_check() in the cp/homepage.php controller
