For a while we’ve already had a lot of hacks in the Forum module files, but it is always a pain to put them back when there’s a new version of the module. We are now about to make some huge changes to the Forum module and are thinking to stop updating it when new builds and versions of the module come out.
Do you think this will cause problems in the future? When EE goes to 2.2 and higher will the forum stop working if we don’t update the module anymore?
Thank you

There is no way of telling in advance. We certainly recommend against hacking; as you say, it can be difficult to keep up with new versions.
Unfortunately there are no guarantees of any kind. If you can’t do what you need with extensions and consequently have to resort to hacking you do so at your own risk.
