I’ve currently got a list of archived articles in monthly groups ie…

Aug 2010 July 2010 June 2010 etc

However, this list is massive as it goes back to 2002.

I want to have a list of the months in the current year, and then bump the rest into yearly archives, for example:

August July June … Feb Jan 2010 2009 2008 … 2003 2002

Sure I saw an add-on which did this automatically? Any ideas?

Did you find a way to accomplish this? I need to do something similar so any info would be appreciated!

I found this handy little add-on: http://loweblog.com/software/low-yearly-archives/

I made my months a sub-list and then used CSS to style it into a drop down menu when hovering over the year.

I think that Low Yearly Archives does handle this

The amazing Yearly Archive plugin does indeed do this. We just applied the exact functionality described above to a site.

To achieve, you use two calls: one for monthly limited to current year and one for the yearly. In order to get the yearly archive list to NOT show the current year, you have to apply a small php hack and enable php for that template, but it works like a charm.
