I would like to dive into creating a plugin for expression engine. I have a website that has restricted access to certain portions of the site based on the member group. I would like to create a dropdown field that serves this purpose. Looking to get my hands dirty. Any suggestions on tutorials or what hooks I might want to look at would be appreciated.

Whee, sound fun!

Not quite clear on what exactly you’re trying to accomplish though. How would this be different from setting permission on those templates?

first of all I think you need an extension or a fieldtype not a plugin.. but I’m not sure since I don’t really know what you exactly want to achieve.

Anyways; my suggestion will be to download some of the free add-ons and examine their code. You can download some of our examples at http://biberltd.com/wiki/ . And also go through the development section of EE documentation. Keep also in mind that you may need to check CodeIgniter documentation.

thanks for the links. you are right about the extension/fieldtype. I would like to be able to assign an singl entry to a specific member group. I’ll take a look at some of the examples. I also just found a memberlist fieldtype, maybe i can look to that for some inspiration. -a
