Create user using API

We’re doing some integration with a back-office system and need a way to create a user via a web services call rather than manually
I’ve seen the API’s that allow you to create content, but nothing about users.
Is this possible at all?

Not currently, the API covers channels and templates at the moment. Nor does the API have a RESTful interface, just PHP classes and methods callable from ExpressionEngine add-ons.

Last post was 2.5 yrs ago, is this possible now b/c I need to do exactly this…. create an EE user from an external web service.
