Can you sort by a custom date field using the Display By Week/Month/Day etc...

Can you sort entries using the display by week:

display_by="week" limit="1"

and add in a sort parameter to sort by a custom date field rather than an entry date field? I’m attempting to do this and it doesn’t seem to be working.
