Plugin: Nearby Entries

Sometimes a site needs more access to next and previous entries than the built-in next/previous tags provide.

With the Nearby Entries plugin, you can:

• display not only one but any number of next and previous entries
• display custom fields
• filter next/previous entries using standard weblog:entries parameters such as status, author, category and custom fields
• order next/previous links not only chronologically by entry_date but alphabetically by title or chronologically by edit_date or expiration_date
• set the order at two levels: to select your next/previous entries, then to select their display order

Also, the plugin is a workaround for the problem where the built-in next/previous tags don’t work when the entry’s url_title or entry_id is in the segment_4 and higher position in the URL (such as when using URLs in the blog-standard /year/month/date/url_title format, the scenario that prompted me to write the plugin in the first place).

The plugin works for both EE v1.x and v2.
