EE AJAX CHAT integration

I was looking for a chat that I could use on an EE site I created for my faculty at Lincoln University, UK. I found AJAXIM and COMET CHAT though the latter is commercial. I am not as good with ajax and was wondering if someone could look at the integration of this two APIs with EE preferably EE v1.6.8.
