Hey everyone - sorry for the lack of activity here, I’ve been super busy with leaving from the desert, getting a new job, preparing to leave the Air Force and preparing for our big move to Augusta, GA.

But! michaelwales.com is back up and in full force. To help share some CodeIgniter knowledge, celebrate the framework and celebrate the month of December I’ll be running a feature this whole month called “CodeIgniter Advent”

Advent is 25 days (from now until Christmas) of awesome CodeIgniter tips from all of your favorite developers! I’ve got a few spots still open so if you’d like to be featured, feel free to message me - anything from a paragraph to a full application. Plus, you’ll get a free byline and links back to your blog - it’s a win!

Check out CodeIgniter Advent: Day 1

    Michael,

Welcome home!  Thanks for your service to our great country and thanks for keeping us and others safe from those that seek to do us harm for no other reason than hate.  Not all of us take what you have done for us for granted. Best of luck to you in the future.

Almost done with my contribution, Michael. Just need a day or two to bang on the code examples with a hammer. The focus of the article is model design but it’s going to ship with a full application so people can see how the controller interacts. I’ll email it your way when it’s ready.

@Michael:  No more hydrate-rehydrate 🐛 Welcome home Mav..

@Colin:  Thanks for you contribution, its definitely an issue that needed some attention.  I skimmed through your work and i’m impressed by your structure and explanations.  Well done.

Its the brotherhood of the CI community that sets it apart from Cake or any other framework community out there.

nice idea Michael, also 24ways.org have been running a similar scheme the last few years, but theirs is about web development in general, take a look 24ways.org

Yeah, that’s generally where the idea came from. Derek Allard and I tossed the idea around last year, of a CodeIgniter Advent, but the time just wasn’t right for either of us.

    This year - it’s on!

Rey: Yes, I just got back from 8 months running convoys throughout the country. Other than that, I’ve been to Kyrgyzstan supporting airlift in Afghanistan, the Horn of Africa on a humanitarian relief effort and Kuwait supporting airlift in Iraq. All in all, 3 years 2 months deployed out of a 6 year career (one of the main reasons I am headed to General Dynamics).

    Back on Topic
I hope everyone enjoys today’s advent - it’s a critical discussion on CSRF exploitation and how you can protect your application from it. Tomorow’s article will be the development and release of a CSRF protection library.

You can get an early look at tomorrow’s article by following these steps:
    1. Post a link on your blog to CodeIgniter Advent Day 1
    2. Follow me on Twitter
    3. Direct message me on Twitter, linking me to your blog post about CodeIgniter Advent Day 1

    Michael,

I really appreciate your including Snipiti in the Day 5 post.  It’s been a one man show over here and I’ve been working hard in the past few weeks to turn this project into a useful resource for developers.  I can’t tell you how excited I was to read through those posts and come across my project listed alongside some really incredible looking sites.

In any case, I’d just like to say thanks for the mention, and I would love to contribute if you’ve still got any spots open.

    Thanks again!

    Jeremy

P.S. - Derek, I really appreciate your help with everything as well.  My entire experience with CodeIgniter, and more importantly, the community built around it, has been absolutely fantastic.

Jeremy - I definitely have more spots open (I’m starting to run dry of ideas myself). Today was the first guest post and I plan to feature a lot more - feel free to email your submission to me (webmaster AT michaelwales_DOTREMOVEME_com)

No more days? *sniff*  ... well, unfortunately I haven’t got any interesting stuff to contribute myself right now. (Or sometimes it is really hard to realise that something MIGHT be interesting, hm…).
The stuff I do right now is quite straight forward CRUD.

Should I continue to mash F5 every day or won’t you post more entries? ;p

Sorry - the Christmas spirit plus work has eaten up a lot of my spare time. Working on a few things to get up there but it has obviously decreased from a daily occurence.
