Switzerland has one of the highest per-capita gun ownership rates in the world (third, behind the United States and Yemen), but recorded only a double handful of violent incidents with firearms last year.

All Swiss men have to go to the army and they have to return a few times during the course of their life, at least that is what i was told. I can’t imagine every man in America to go in the army to get the proper training to handle guns.
But lately the Swiss are beginning to protest against the right to bare arms as there have been a number of very violent incidents. One i know of is a man who entered the town hall and started shooting at the officials.

As a Swiss I agree with xwero’s saying. Guns are very unpopular here, and I’m quite glad about it. Like bramme, I also would suggest bowling for columbine, moor’s best movie so far, far better than his others I would say.
I doubt that the crysis will lead into anarchy, but even if it will, I doubt a gun make things better. And if it will end up with communism, the state will tell you which gun will be the right one for you 😛

Giving Americans guns is NOT a good idea. Giving anyone guns actually.

    right 😊

a gun makes killing too easy.
pull the trigger and you killed (or maybe just injured) someone.

    weapons can’t protect.
the only reason many people “need a gun” is because everybody else
    could have one:

    the “solution” is the cause.

I don’t recommend that you buy a gun, because if you are as stupid as you sound, you will probably shoot yourself by mistake.

Wired hey I never said I was smart you smart ass. Those comments are going to get you shot by a stupid ass like my self. Maybe it’s better I don’t have a gun.

Sounds like you want to do more than defend yourself with your gun, and you should be very careful about threatening people online.

Luckily New Zealand has very strict gun laws so I’m fairly safe.

Sally D, you are an idiot. I hope someone deletes this thread and i hope discussions like this never come up again.

@wiredesignz - Where abouts in NZ? My sister lives there and wants me to move over there myself!

Frenzal you should follow the news more closely 😉 This summer a man in his seventies shot a neighbour because he didn’t want him to barbecue. Last week a 50 something year old man shot his wife on the steps of the courthouse. And last summer more than one elderly man shot at children because they were making too much noise. Of course that is not the whole story in these cases but the measures they took can/did have dramatic consequences.

Young people now have problems to get guns because of the murders in Antwerp but now they shoot with air pressure guns.

The worst thing about having guns is that you can only deal with the aftermath. You never know who is going to do something crazy with it.

xwero, you’re making us (Belgians) look like a gun-ho crowd. The thing is, as you say, there’s more to the whole story. The events you mention here are probably the only ones we’ve had this year. Each one we have makes the news because it nearly never happens here in Belgium. I think if the American news would report every grandpa, neighbour or crazed husband who shoots his crazed son in law, other neighbour or father in law, they’d need a 24hour all-guns-nothing-else news channel…

Bramme i only made the elder people look gun-ho and i would be amazed if there isn’t an American 24-7 crime channel 😉

I just noticed it watching the news. You say it nearly ever happens but i could give you many more examples of violent elderly people from the news. Maybe the news has an hidden agenda picturing elderly people as violent to scare off younger people that see them as easy prey 😊

I think most of the people on the world don’t think about or own guns but the ones that do make the news. Easy access to guns increases the possibility for some one with bad intentions to get a hold of them.

Bringing this to the nerd level : A programmer who doesn’t care about security can loose lots of important data. If he doesn’t prevent things like infinite loops he can crash a shared hosting server.

Next to the fact that more shootings than these few examples of xwero make it to the news, i think that there is a lot (of crime) going on that we don’t know half about.
But hey, that’s just me thinking out loud.
On the other hand, I’m pretty sure it’s safe to say it’s not that bad around here (I’m only talking about crime against civilians that don’t bother other people).

I’d just like to point out that as a NON-gun-owning american, I still am glad I can buy one if I want.

Crime rates are lower in american towns and cities where they allow people to carry guns in plain sight or concealed.

However, as someone who occasionally takes sips of the conspiracy juice, I do think that a well-armed militia is the best defense against a tyrannical government. Not to mention those who wish to do you harm.

Oh sorry, I thought most of you would know. It means “second”, as in “seconded, i agree with the above”

If you what you quoted (That is what you seconded) and what you replied against that qoute in your previous post with the “²” was not contradicting to the fact you said you agreed with as you state here, i would think your being sarcastic. 😊

    LOL 😛
