My MBP is about 20 months old now and still going strong and meeting all my needs.

Mind you, I do lust after new toys, and the new Macbooks and Pros look mighty fine! For now, my nasty old logic won’t let me upgrade. I’ll have to let the situation percolate for a while and see if my subconscious can come up with a decent justification.  :lol:

personally I’m eyeing the new MacBook Air.

I have a 13” MacBook and have lugged it around to various countries with me and while I do not consider the weight too bad if I can cut it at all before my big trip that’s got to be a plus.  By the time I add the DSLR and associated lenses plus all the other ‘stuff’ one lugs around while backpacking (maybe I should say ‘flash packing’) that day pack is starting to get a little heavy.

sorry, rambling, but the MacBook Air looks great… I’m also proud that I’ve managed to restrain myself and not run out and buy one straight away.  After all they might even announce further models before I go.  The AUD might even go up again and make it more affordable…

I saw the new MacBook and it looks VERY nice. Especially with the backlit keyboard. For an extra AU$500 I can get the MacBook Pro 15”. Ooh decisions, decisions!

I’m still trying to get my hands on a mint condition Mac Classic. I simply love them. They always looked like a real person to me. Sad I know but there you go.

Probably due to the fact that the icon was used on the startup screens and things like that but I still think that they ooze personality! 😊

I got my first Mac in 1988 - a Mac SE30. I still have it in storage! Before that I was using a twin floppy (No hard drive!) SE at work - I was producing artwork using Quark 2 and would have to swap disks to save files. I would indeed love one of the new PowerBooks, maybe next year.

Edited: 1988 not 1998 doh! 98 doesn’t sound so impressive!

I caved a couple of days ago and ordered the 2.4 MBP. I can’t say I’m happy about the price even with discounts, but I’m sure (or hoping!) I’ll forget the damage it did to my bank account by the time it arrives in two weeks (grumble #2 - Apple certainly don’t go to any rush to get the things to the UK). I’ll be using it as my primary PC and for design work it’ll be plugged in to my 22” external monitor. Like Mark I find the extra space is especially helpful in that department.

Given that the performance isn’t likely to be a huge improvement over the previous gen MPBs I wouldn’t be upgrading if I had one of them. However in comparison to my wee Mini it should seem positively lightning fast. 😊

Can’t wait until the 17” comes out in the new style. I hoe that they don’t get rid of Firewire for the 17” I recently upgraded all of my externals to eSATA and Firewire and as far as I know their isn’t an Express Card that would allow me to have both in use at the same time. Maybe a reason to get a MacPro if they do get rid of Firewire.

The MBP’s still have Firewire, jlo1987, only the MacBooks got rid of it.

I picked up the previous gen 2.4 MBP from a local reseller right after they announced the new ones.  I debated getting a refurbed 2.4 from Apple.com for $1349 (I figured they probably had both new AND actual refurbs in the refurb store), but I decided to be certain and go with the definitely new previous gen.  I still got over $400 off the price.  There was nothing too compelling to make me choose the new design/new graphics card.

Anyone have “must have” apps that they use?  We could probably start a whole other thread for this.  This is my first Mac and so far I’m getting used to CyberDuck for FTP, TextWrangler for editing and such.

I’ll be ducking out of the laptop-race this time around I think. I have a black Macbook and it has served me well for the last 2 years, but now I tend to do all my work on my 20in iMac which I have had about a year now.

Having seen and played with all the new models in the Apple Store recently, if I had to make a choice, I would definitely go with the Macbook Air.
