Yep, I’m at home 80% of the time.  I work a couple of mornings a week in an office on a short term contract and having that bit of interaction is really good.

It can get quite demoralising to spend too much time working on your own, I always think that you need people to bounce ideas off when you are being creative.

I did for a long time and recently got fed up and got an office. My productivity doubled

I have been working on the Internet from home for about a couple of years. Over the time I have realised that it si good that I stay at home and work when I want to… but I agree with you that the productivity seems to be down. The reason I can think of is the fact that when you are working from home, you are less motivated and there seems to be no competition which is a major factor when you work at office. You always have this feeling of doing better than co-workers.

I work from home too,and it’s awesome. Once you do it you never want to go back. Working in a cube and fighting traffic looking forward to lunch just wasn’t for me anymore, especially when my kids were born. There is so much more to life than that. Figure it out and enjoy what others are already doing!

I am about to start working from home…I think the most difficult thing for me is going to be discipline and not getting distracted by the internet, email, friends, the telephone. I think laziness is also going to be a challenge for me. We´ll see how long I last haha!

I’ve been working from home the last 9 months and I’m getting depressed actually…. My client is not very responsive and I don’t have people to talk to or the usual bantering that happens in an office. I have a dog that takes me for a walk every 3 hours, which is good… but I just miss that human interaction and ‘buzz’.

    Any tips?

    Difficult.

Some people like working from home, and are very productive. Some, like you apparently, can’t cope with the solitude. It’s in your nature I guess.

Speaking for myself, I wouldn’t have a problem living on the northpole for months at the time ( providing there is a connection to the net 😉 ), having other people around actually make me less productive, and disturb my thought process (when I’m coding that is, in my day job I do nothing but walk and talk, from meeting to meeting, wearing a 3-piece suit. Guess thats why I’m up every night coding…).
