How in the world can a web hosting company’s website go down? Makes me a bit nervous. :grrr:

Not to defend them, but all sorts of things can go wrong that no host can be immune to. Australia was once down to the rest of the world for something like 3 days, due to an underwater line being cut.
Hopefully they’ll post an update so that their customers know what is going on. =)

True. But gee-wiz…what ever happened to redundancy?

I just had a look because I have not looked at MT for hosting for a long time and I must say that their grid service looks very good - anyone have any good/bad things to say about it?

I’m using their DV for you129.com, and I am pretty happy with it. Heck of a lot better than Dreamhost. shamefull… :blank:

Nothing ever designed or created by humans has been, or ever will be, 100% perfect, so the perfection we hope for is a dream. Limiting the impact of our imperfections is the best we can ever hope to do, in this industry, or any other part of life. 😊

Really… I had no end of troubles with their DV and switched to Hostgator. Still use MT’s grid hosting which I’m happy with for some of my other sites.

Now that is deep…no really. That sounds like an old Proverb or something…

Yep. Smooth sailin’. Not problems yet to report and I’ve used it for about 6 months now. We’ll see in the future tho…

I have a very, er, nonworksafe motto for Gridserver at this point.
Let’s just say they go down so much they remind me of certain… professional women in Tijuana.

Hey spindigg,
Any chance you would share a few quick words on your experience with hostgator? Are you a reseller?
Thanks.

I set up a trial Gridserver account around a year ago and found it to be severely lacking. I would certainly not trust any of my own sites on it, let alone any of my client’s. Perhaps it has improved since, but I’ll stick with paying extra for the reliability, customisability (of course that’s a word) and peace of mind that non-shared hosting brings. I got the impression MT is all show and no go.

I did a ton of research on hosts for a recent move of 5 sites and I looked at MT. The conclusion- they do a GREAT job of marketing and advertising themselves as a high performance host but it doesn’t take much to uncover that they have a LOT of dissatisfied customers and they crash all the time. I know this is going to be true for many bottom half of all the webhosts reviewed.
I’m with hostgator now and I’ve loved everything about it. There customer service has been great and I haven’t had one second of down time.

Well I say for £10 ($20) a month you get what you pay for really!!
My Wife and I placed a site of ours on there back about a year ago now and had nothing but problems. Site was always down or exceptionally slow and their support was absolutely awful. I’ve had better experiences with the call centres we get put in touch with when we call here in the UK for help with our phones than I did with them!
That’s really saying something as the people on the end of the call-centre lines are absolute numpties!
Sufficed to say I would never ever even think about touching Media Temple again unless I had an exceptionally long barge pole!
Best wishes,
Mark
