We’ll start with an update on the EE blog in the near future and go from there. In either case, we’re due for more info on our end.

    Excellent stuff.

I have a few projects coming up and would like to use EE for them but don’t want to start designing and adding plugins, etc to have to upgrade half way through design process.

Referring to “Social Networks” for MovableType, if you list what is wanted, I believe as an past MT developer that EE has it all, and a lot more.
What isn’t already built in can be added using the favorites and rating modules from solspace.com. And EE has a real forum and member groups built in.

Just for the record, I had a good email conversation with Lee just so everyone knows.

I’m still curious about one particular piece of social networking functionality—Can a (user/reader/member) (track/follow/filter) (comments/posts/discussions/etc) from particular (folks/friends) that they know or that they find especially interesting?

This Favorites Module Forum post has the code one person used to setup a subscription - send an email if an article added as a favorite was commented on, looks like one could also add to an author.

for the record where I am, I still need the air conditioner and by the time I get to work I have giant pit stains because it’s so bloody hot - it’s summer here at least until mid-october.

Summer is only just starting here in Sydney.  I really hope I don’t have to wait until the end of the Southern hemisphere summer for EE2.

Though it is not part of EE2, we just started testing our new User Groups Module for EE that will allow you to let Members of your site create, manage, and join/leave their own groups… another step towards a more social EE.

If you’re interested in testing, or simply interested in the module, check out this thread:

    Thanks,

    Doug

This ‘notice’ is showing up in enough places as to look and feel a little ‘spammy.’

Agreed, grumps. Though I would have omitted the words “a” and “little.”

We apologize for blasting this around a bit too much. To be honest this is our first module, so we are extremely excited by it as well as responding to a major request that we have seen on the forums. We just want as many people as possible to give it a go and give feedback so we can improve it and release to all.

Once again, sorry for over posting.

Because it’s obvious that you’re an EE guy reader response is probably tempered. I would suggest that future ‘promotions’ be more subtle. For example, don’t promote on 10 different posts, one after the other. Give it a day or so. That way it doesn’t look like you’re stacking the cards for your own benefit.

Looks like a neat product, though. It’s free for everyone who endured the spam, right?

    😉
