I haven’t tried Andrew.n’s plugin yet.
However, I did write a lengthy spec on a possible solution for EE2 using Director’s API here: http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/155294/P18/#751706
I haven’t implemented it yet, but might give you some ideas on a solution…
