    Content Management Survey Results

Should be interesting to keep an eye on the hosted solution these guys are whipping up.

I find it a little funny they just did a survey of CMS’s which will probably get you guys a lot more business, but their real intention was market research for a CMS they’re building.

Why do I have a hard time with Wordpress being considered a CMS?

Yeah, Wordpress and Movable Type are not content management systems. I think that’s funny too, because we even have clients ask us “why don’t you just use Wordpress… it’s free” when we tell them we’re using EE.

We just politely respond saying we’d be happy to, but it’d take about 30% longer and would severely limit our creative abilities with the design and information architecture. All to save $250. Since we started using EE, we haven’t had to use Wordpress yet. 😊

Interestingly, Bruce Clay… the SEO guy is supposedly building a CMS too… for the SEO crowd.  A friend of a friend of a friend heard this at one of his recent conferences. I’m curious what he adds to make it so good for SEO.

My guess is features already included in EE like mod_rewritten URL’s, easy to use template system, tags, etc.

My bet is that the OrderedList will come up with something quite nice – a la Good Barry. As for Bruce Clay, not so sure.

I don’t mind WordPress getting lumped-in even though it’s not a true CMS, the last couple versions have been veering more in that direction. It certainly is surging in popularity, it jumped from 1.5 to 6.5 billion page views per month in the last year. Interesting to watch.
