A couple of other quick questions if I may Derek?

As there will be a quick way to install Modules when installing the base of ExpressionEngine two things hit me here.

Firstly if you can install modules at installation time then if the modules have settings will this be done at that point or after you have installed meaning that you wouldn’t have really saved any time if the latter?

Secondly, will there be a way to save a sort of settings file or something so that you can very quickly set a default site up each and every time you create a site so that you have your own personal settings as such? That would be a great one I can see.

So, I’m confused. Does this mean EE 2.0 will be out this Tuesday or Thursday?

Just the former, sadly.  I am continually thwarted at my attempts to rid the world of trackbacks.

Because trackbacks increase the amount of this:

I think people hate trackbacks because 90% of the time they are used by spammers, the other 10% by people you don’t really want to associate with.

And readers don’t really use them. If you like something, link to it. Let them do the same. Using trackbacks just doesn’t work.

At least that’s the way I see it. A good idea that never caught on or got used as intended.

Is there any chance of a calendar module? Seems like such a gaping hole in a CMS that has everything from wiki’s to forums!  If it’s not one of the “quick install” modules, are there any plans to release one that we can install?

With some ingenuity, just about everything you want can be accomplished with the weblog module and the weblog calendar tag.  That said, a focused calendar / event module has always been on my radar, but there is only so much time in a day.  I know when you have a particular need it can feel like a missing feature is a “gaping hole”, but I assure you, if it was something that accurately fit that description, a third party developer would have long since stepped up and cashed in on that need.

Just a thought, but It would also be cool to have an option of installing the dummy ee setup / templates / weblog + fields during the initial install. Right now I just use an SQL query to clean all that junk out, but it would be nice to have the capability of doing a proper clean install. cheers guys keep up the good work!

I second the “clean install” request. I learned more about EE in a week once I decided to do it “fresh,” than I had in the previous years of using it.

I think we’ve already stated that we plan on having “clean install” option that just installs EE but doesn’t include anything beyond that. That way a person can really start from “scratch” as it were.

One of the goals of 2.x and beyond is improving the initial workflow when it comes to getting started with EE, especially for people who use EE for client work (which is a whole lot of the community).

I’m very excited about this release, and (as I have said before) think you have done absolutely right in converting everything to run on CI.
