Some of you may be aware that Derek Allard and I spent the last two weeks at a make-shift office in Bend, working on some of the more difficult challenges in developing 2.0.  Or maybe you just noticed our absence from the forums the past few weeks.  Either way, we continually get asked “How is 2.0 coming along?”  Well, the three-day weekend seems as good a time as any to give a micro-update on the progress of the next major version of ExpressionEngine.

Looks great!  I hope you have a Happy 4th of July too—and don’t spend all of it working.

I’m also glad to see version 2 is on the downhill side.

Thanks for the update! I am particularly interested in the new jQuery module…is that going to be a helper, similar to Rails’ integration of Prototype? Or a rerequisite for other modules that use jQuery functionality? Can you give us any clues yet?

    Keep up the good work!

Is there any chance of a calendar module? Seems like such a gaping hole in a CMS that has everything from wiki’s to forums!  If it’s not one of the “quick install” modules, are there any plans to release one that we can install?

What’s with the questions people, you know you’re not going to get any answers (yet) 😉

Oh, and hopefully that “Trackback” checkbox is disabled by default, or better… gone for good!

Just the former, sadly.  I am continually thwarted at my attempts to rid the world of trackbacks.

I don’t work with Rails, so I can’t speak to its comparability.  jQuery will be installed and available on every ExpressionEngine installation,  as it will ship as a standard library with CodeIgniter.  The module, however, is different.  And that is all I will say for now. :-D

With some ingenuity, just about everything you want can be accomplished with the weblog module and the weblog calendar tag.  That said, a focused calendar / event module has always been on my radar, but there is only so much time in a day.  I know when you have a particular need it can feel like a missing feature is a “gaping hole”, but I assure you, if it was something that accurately fit that description, a third party developer would have long since stepped up and cashed in on that need.

Just do it, go on! Accidentally leave that out of the code base. I’m sure no one would miss it 😉

Great to have some more information about the new release, very teasing of you all! 😊

Don’t work too hard we don’t want you burning out before reaching your goal now.

Seriously though you are fantastic at what you do and even if we don’t get any sneak previews like this I’m sure that what is going to come out is going to be brilliant. Looking forward to it all very much.

    Have a great weekend.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

That’s what I figured, but it was worth a try, right? 😊

I noticed a tag module built in - just after I bought the solspace module.

Actually, what you are seeing is ExpressionEngine reading third party modules that you’ve FTP’d along with the base application, and offering to install them too.

MSM is an extra and not a ‘Module’ as such, in 1.6+ at least anyway.

I think there is a typo in there.

‘Simple’ should be spelled ‘Full’ 😉
