    Hey Mark,

From the one blurry screenshot I tend to agree about the look. However the extra functionality looks great and the fact that Veerle designed it (hopefully coded it) means it should be easy to update.

But you never know until you try it for yourself and I can’t wait!

Not wanting to put a dampener on all the fun but from what I have seen of the admin back-end I don’t think I like it. I know that I haven’t seen it in its full glory yet and with all the Javascript goodness going on but to me it just looks too much like all the other web 2.0 CMS systems that are out there and looks less in-depth. I know that a lot of people find the admin panel sometimes confusing but I like the fact that you can take parts out for certain people.

The screen-shots I have seen look like they don’t have a lot in them to start with.

I will totally reserve my true feelings until I have had a chance to have a go with the final version though but just my first impressions really, sorry. :-(

    Best wishes,

    Mark

Good work Derek. I’m not sure about the garish colour scheme though. Please think about dropping in a more subdued version. The current colour scheme plus an old school purple would be nice 😊

These are all “in flux”, and may change a bit.

To answer a few questions quickly that I’ve seen already (trying to fit this in during lunch and crummy internet connection), YES the CP will be easily themable, YES jQuery is integreted and easily useable, NO its not finished.  YES we love the new CP.

    Hey Derek,

Thanks for the screenshots! Easily themeable is great!

One quick question? Will the be native member templates be easily themeable as well. Or will we be still using Solsapces user module?

    Cheers

    Hi Derek,

Thanks for the images! Didn’t mean to sound down on what I had seen so far but as Leevi said from the blurry shots seen so far it wasn’t really much to go by. Looking at the images that you have provided they do look a lot better. I think for me what is doing it is the button bar at the top. I just don’t think it goes with the rest of the design. Will that be easy to change. I have never really been one for gradients opposing each other I’m afraid.

Saying that though the images you have provided do give a much better overview and I can’t wait to get my hands on the final version and give it a run for its money when it is ready. I’m sure it will blow me away so please ignore everything I have said previously 😉

    Best wishes,

    Mark

One other question I have and I know that this will obviously become apparent when the software is released but will the back-end have Veerles logo in there?
As great a designer as Veerle is I am worried that if it is in there then any clients that have access to the back-end are not only going to see the ExpressionEngine logo (no offence meant here at all) but also Veerles logo (again no offence intended) and they might start asking questions like why did we come to you and not go to them instead?

Is Veerles logo just because the currently logged-in user has that set somewhere as their image?

    Best wishes,

    Mark

    Thanks, Derek!

One question, if possible to answer at the current moment: I noticed the search in the sidebar of the new edit screen - would that perhaps allow searching “on the fly” for related older postings and adding a link to them in the new post easier then now? That would make a great addition for some applications.

Im only speculating but I would assume that is changeable per site.

Awaiting that answer with baited breath 😉
    And, will they be templatable?

Whoa thanks for posting those Derek - it’s looking very interesting!

@Mark - I know it’s early days yet but seeing the general direction I think a lot of my customers would like the new type interface, and that’s important. Knowing the way EE develop stuff hopefully your fears will be put to rest when you try it.

Mark, the logo is for the company, or site/domain whatever - similar to how you can upload a logo for a company in Basecamp - her logo happens to be in there on the demo install.

Now let the speculation on “Build: 20080401” from the footer begin. And yeah, it’s Fool’s day. Maybe that’s for my own consumption. 😊

    Hi everyone,

First of all sorry to the admins for what probably seem like very silly questions coming from my corner. It’s probably because not being there and seeing the admin side of things working in real-time then I have different questions to those of others who were that at the time as we notice different things so I apologise for the questions as I know that there is a long way to go as of yet.

Hopefully as Derek says the admin panel will be very configurable and style-able as this will definitely be a major plus. No offence to Veerle as I really do like her work but in this instance it just wasn’t doing it for me but that is entirely a personal thing so I will shush up about that! 😉

As to the logo is it not Derek who is logged-in at the moment?

As a couple of people have said previously the member templates would be a major boon if they can be styled as we see fit and really all we need for that to happen is more member tags so that we can do this. This will definitely be a fantastic addition if it happens.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

    A couple more quickies:

Will there be any video to accompany the screens?
Was there any video shown in the presentation or a live demo?

    Cheers
