My copy of Leopard just arrived! Gotta get a few things out of the way today before I run the install but I can’t wait. For anyone who wants good backup instructions make sure you look at John Gruber’s advice titled “I Believe in Murphy’s Law” before installing Leopard.

Btw, I like how Apple packages things. Wow! Simple and beautiful.

First day on leopard and here are some first impressions:

Spaces - it’s great but takes some time to get used to.
Icon Preview - makes the icons view so much nicer.
Stacks - after I spend sometime getting a little more organized these are gonna help alot.
Unified Theme - I like it… the old theme didn’t bother me tho.
QuickLook - the perfect addition to Mac. This will be used non-stop.
Mail + iCal - I need to dig into these but they look great.
CoverFlow in the Finder - Nice but I don’t know how much I’ll use this view.
Finder - A much nicer interface; Path finder feature is sweet.
Spotlight - Much improved and faster. You can even search for menu items within apps. That’s slick.
Safari - Fast and easy to use, I just miss Saft again.
Shelf Dock - Open apps are hard to discern, the light to identify them is really subtle.
iChat - Looks great, I’ll just have to take some time with it tho.
MenuBar - I’m not a fan of the transparency, hopefully this will be optional in the future.

When I get some time to dig in more I’ll try to post more thoughts.

I wondering whether to get it in the next few weeks but I hear that one or two apps that I can’t live without may not work as intended, my Billings and Project manager apps. Might wait to see when they sort it out.

Looks lovely though and the Time Machine thingy looks to be a winner.

    Stacks looks great too.

What’s the performance like compared to Tiger? I have a new Mac Book Pro to put it on.

I’m on a MacBook Pro and it’s definitely faster. 😊

I’m on a MacBook Pro as well (2.33 GHz Core2Duo), but can’t say I’ve noticed the OS or accompanying apps being much snappier. Not at all slower, to be sure. But that’s just probably a perception thing on my part.

There are some problems with Adobe apps, mainly Acrobat and Distiller, that will prevent me from putting Leopard on my office machine for a while. (I do lots of print production work as well.) But I’m enjoying it on my MBP. There are some bugs, to be sure: RSS is wonky to the point of can’t rely on it; Mail’s sounds don’t always work; it broke PGP. Little things like that, though there does seem to be more of them in 10.5.0 than in 10.4.0. I’m assuming many of those will be squashed with the 10.5.1 release.

I’m thinking that will be relatively soon, because I want to recall there was a 10.4.1 release within a couple of weeks of Tiger’s initial offering. But I could be wrong.  😝

Not denigrating Leopard at all. There’s lots to love. I’m particularly liking Mail’s new notes and “to do” functions and look forward to putting those to work on my office machine. The new TextEdit will open Microsoft’s latest Word format. (So will Pages.)

All in all, as it matures it’ll be the best yet.

I just ordered my first Mac today, a 24” iMac with Leopard. I’m a bit excited…

Congratulations! I think you’ll be very pleased with your new iMac. I use a year-old 24-inch iMac at the office and love it. You’ll have some great fun learning OSX’s ins and outs and just plain poking around. You’ll have the hang of it in no time.

    Thanks Paris!

I’m sure I’ll be revisiting all the Mac sites for info on how to best use it.

    Congrats Stinhambo…

I just upgraded my iMac to 3 gigs of ram and cannot believe I used it without it.  Make sure you load it up with ram if you haven’t already.  I buy ram from crucial.com because it’s quite a bit cheaper than Apple.

Stinhambo, I think you’ll love your new iMac. I work of off a 15” MacBook Pro but I’d like to get the model you’ve just ordered for my home office. Enjoy it!

I bought an extra 1gb of RAM but not at Apple prices!

I have used G.SKILL from NewEgg.com for years in my Apple computers.
