Yeah, going to the Apple store was fun.  I wasn’t expecting a line.  We were 89th and it extended about 200 deep.  The Apple staff, dressed in a variety of clothing with Leopard patterns, served water and Starbucks coffee to everyone standing in line.  I had several occasions where mall shoppers came up to me and said, “what in the world is going on?”  One even said, “what does Apple sell?”

Anyway, the doors opened, the music was rockn’, and when you entered the store, the staff clapped and gave you a high-five and a t-shirt as they guided you around the store in a maze to the checkout

Geeky to say the least, but fun indeed.

Updating to Leopard has been a mixed bag for me. The biggest thing right now is that SpamSeive isn’t working. I followed the latest instructions to reinstall the Apple Mail plugin and while it looks like its installed, it is working… in other words it does not properly trap spam and the train options don’t work.

Considering the volume of email involved in my daily life this is very significant and I might roll back if I can’t find a solution this morning.

Also, dual monitor support is buggy. I’ve had three crashes when closing the lid and using the 2nd monitor as the main.

Aside from that, its been good and its really only SpamSeive that is annoying me at the moment, something I’m sure is not the developer’s fault.

Hm, SpamSieve got right back to work for me after reinstalling.  Bummer.  Curse you Apple!

My dual monitor set up is working right as rain though.  One thing I have noticed is every so often the redraw on my iMac is just a bit slow.  You can actually see a bit of a ghost.

The dual monitor crash happens to me when I do the following…

    1. Both monitors are up and running. My 2nd monitor is set as the secondary display.

    2. I close the lid on the MBP, which puts the computer to sleep.

    3. I wake the MBP by moving the moving or typing on the keyboard. In Tiger this wakes up the computer with the MBP lid’s closed and the 2nd monitor is now the main. This crashes Leopard.

If I use the Display Menu and switch the 2nd monitor to the Primary monitor and then close the lid, it works but is annoying to take that extra step. I know there are also function keys to make this switch, I’ve just been to lazy to look them up yet.

*envies you Leopard adopters* So the big question is, I’m running Panther on an older comp—a 1 GHZ G4 ibook.  That’s pretty low on the specs, though it does have 768 Ram.  Would Leopard be faster than Panther, you think?

My brother installed on a 1Ghz G4, Powerbook with 512 MB ram last night.  He reported that it boots up a little slow, but everything else (so far) runs pretty good.  He’s happy with it.

SpamSieve? Mail.app’s junk mail filters have always had excellent success and satisfied me. :🤷:

SpamSieve blows Mail’s built-in system out of the water. Its not even close in my experience.

Did you spend time with Apple’s junk mail filter in training mode?  Maybe it’s a result of me leaving that on for so long, but it’s incredibly rare that I ever get a spam email delivered to a mailbox instead of the junk folder.

I remember trying a lot of things with Apple’s junk mail and it never worked. I still got loads of junk email. Spamsieve stopped all of it, just about instantly, with very little training required.

I agree, though I have switched to using GMail as my spam filter and it is good as well.

Glad you solved SpamSieve Leslie. I went to the site to bookmark it as an app I’d like to buy when I get my iMac and I say your post on the forums.

I’ve downloaded the intro video for Leopard and I am sooo excited.

My experience too. I couldn’t get by without SpamSieve.

Now if I could only get that kind of filtering on my iPhone. . . .  😜

I’m glad that some people have had success with SpamSieve. I would however let everyone know that I used to use it but then went back to using Mail’s standard junk mail filter and trained it as SpamSieve ended up creating a massive, and I do mean massive!! database of filter rules and ended up crashing Mail every single time I tried to use it to do anything. It was also slowing the computer down to a complete crawl as well.

I know that a lot of people had experienced the same thing also so it wasn’t just me doing something silly! 😊

Anyway hope it keeps working well for the guys that are using it but myself personally I now get absolute ZERO spam in my inbox as it is all filtered out with the standard Mail Junk filter.

As to Leopard myself I am going to wait as I have quite a few programs that I know for fact won’t work if I upgrade and also I usually like to wait a few months so that they can iron out all the bugs by everyone else trying it out first!! 😊 So to that end I say thanks to all of you testing it out for me!! 😊 😊

Seriously though I don’t like upgrading on my main computer right away as it is my dev machine and don’t really want anything on there not working for a long amount of time as I just can’t afford to.

Can’t wait to get my grubby hands on it though as I have been using Macs pretty much ever since they first came out!

    Best wishes,

    Mark
