The Tag Module provides a full-featured “folksonomy engine” elegantly integrated with ExpressionEngine. The Tag Module offers a powerful feature set perfect for sites large and small.

    Excellent.

About time Mitchell got some well deserved notice on this module. I am currently using his module and it is absolutely fantastic. The only small thing that would be nice is if it could use a custom field for the tags instead of the extra tab and textfield that it is using at the moment as I am using the module to not only tag images and show tag-clouds but also to search the entries based on tags so I am having to copy all the tags into a custom field.

That out of the way though the Tag module is one absolutely excellent piece of coding by an excellent coder!! 😊

Hope he does really well out of this as he deserves to. His software has helped me out tons on a lot of major projects so time for the recognition that he deserves.

Also thanks to EE and its crew for making such a capable publishing system to allow people to create these kinds of modules and release them for people to use.

Good luck Mitchell and the Solspace crew!! I’m sure we will be seeing even more great modules and extensions from them in the future.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

This really is well-deserved. The Tag Module is by and large something that just feels natural in EE. It belongs in there. We are going to be working on the “official” feature video for the Tag Module, we are using it in many unconventional ways that show off it’s hidden power. Well worth the price, seriously.

Wow excellent! Look forward to seeing that video when it is up and running. Perhaps you could post the link in this thread so that we all get to see it?

I’ve already bought the Tag module from Solspace - I assume that the latest version from the Solspace website is the same as the version in the EE store?

Yes. Mitchell, turns out, is a generous guy. Owners of Tag 1.0 get a free upgrade to Tag 2.0. I believe it should already be available in your Solspace account. If not, check on the Solspace forums. EllisLab will not be providing upgrades from Tag 1.0 from our store or My Downloads area, so its important you check your Solspace account if you are a current Tag 1.0 owner.

Once Andru gets the video done it will be added to the Tag Module page and we’ll announce it from the EE blog as well.

Good for Solspace!  I’m happy for them.  They deserve it, of course.  I’ve not had a need for the tag module yet, but I’m sure I will at some point.

My question is, how does someone become a certified developer?  Looking at the page it talks about following all the guidelines (of course) but also a track history of support, etc.  Solspace is a natural, and I assume a few of the other prominent developers like Mark Huot will be there.  Do you have a gut feel for what we aspiring developers need to do to join that elite group?

Thanks!  And once again, congrats to Solspace!

At some point in the future we’ll have more information for developers looking to get an add-on certified. We review all add-ons listed, whether they are certified or not. The difference is the thoroughness of the review. I believe we’ve spent about 2 months now, give or take in the certification process. Its not a small thing as I’m sure Mitchell can attest to 😊

For developers looking to get an add-on certified here are a couple guidelines to get started with.

    1. Your code, without exception, must absolutely, 100% conform to every single point in the Developer Guidelines. Don’t even bother asking us if your code isn’t already significantly headed that direction.

    2. You must have a track record of running a business or supporting the EE community in a significant way. Solspace has been devoted to EE since day 1 and prior to that used pMachine Pro extensively. I would recommend starting with free EE add-ons and a website that clearly shows you are dedicated to providing customer and technical support. Even if your add-on is awesome, if your website is a paragraph with an email support link, that’s not going to cut it. It needs to be overwhelming obvious that you are committed long term to the EE platform and that you are capable of sustaining a business. Being a top-notch coder is only part of the equation.

The Tag Module is a test of sorts, that’s allowing us to learn how best to approach certification. We’re going to be fairly quiet about details until we’re sure we’ve got it worked out.

I was also wondering about this, I’m currently using Simple Tag instead of the Solspace module just so i can use the search capability. Does Tag 2.0 have a way for tags to show up in search results?

I upgraded it (yesterday, free of charge) from 1.1.6 to 2.0.9.

No problems. The only issue is the instruction stated:

    7) The new software will detect that you need to upgrade and will present an upgrade link in red in the top portion of the page.
    8) Click the upgrade link.

But the version was upgraded automatically without any upgrade link.

P.S. I like (and liked) this Tag module and I’m glad it became an official (I understand, relatively) part of ExpressionEngine.

That was a good decision for EE users.

Not sure on this. Best thing to do is hop on the Solspace forums and ask there.

    Hiya,

Sorry to pop this on the end of this post here as I know that this is really meant to be announcing the Tag module but I was just wondering what you meant by Simple Tag. Is this a module?

    Thanks.

    Best wishes,

    Mark
