Good for Solspace! I’m happy for them. They deserve it, of course. I’ve not had a need for the tag module yet, but I’m sure I will at some point.
My question is, how does someone become a certified developer? Looking at the page it talks about following all the guidelines (of course) but also a track history of support, etc. Solspace is a natural, and I assume a few of the other prominent developers like Mark Huot will be there. Do you have a gut feel for what we aspiring developers need to do to join that elite group?
Thanks! And once again, congrats to Solspace!
At some point in the future we’ll have more information for developers looking to get an add-on certified. We review all add-ons listed, whether they are certified or not. The difference is the thoroughness of the review. I believe we’ve spent about 2 months now, give or take in the certification process. Its not a small thing as I’m sure Mitchell can attest to 😊
For developers looking to get an add-on certified here are a couple guidelines to get started with.
1. Your code, without exception, must absolutely, 100% conform to every single point in the Developer Guidelines. Don’t even bother asking us if your code isn’t already significantly headed that direction.
2. You must have a track record of running a business or supporting the EE community in a significant way. Solspace has been devoted to EE since day 1 and prior to that used pMachine Pro extensively. I would recommend starting with free EE add-ons and a website that clearly shows you are dedicated to providing customer and technical support. Even if your add-on is awesome, if your website is a paragraph with an email support link, that’s not going to cut it. It needs to be overwhelming obvious that you are committed long term to the EE platform and that you are capable of sustaining a business. Being a top-notch coder is only part of the equation.
The Tag Module is a test of sorts, that’s allowing us to learn how best to approach certification. We’re going to be fairly quiet about details until we’re sure we’ve got it worked out.
