    I am having this trouble too - but it is only on the Mac.  TinyMCE is showing up on my client’s PC in IE.  Would an add-on conflict be browser specific?

    EDIT:  I said this earlier in the thread, but I have Paul’s extension installed.

    What browser on your mac ruraldreams?

    In addition to an EE plugin conflict, it could also be a browser plugin.  For example, the google toolbar.  It could also be javascript settings.  Does the online demo work for you in the browser that you are having trouble with?

    Could you try a different browser on your Mac?  I’ve tested on both Safari and Firefox, and things seem good.

    I’m trying on both Safari and Firefox - after I posted yesterday I disabled my Firefox add-ons and restarted, but it didn’t resolve it.

    The online demo does work for me.

    I’m having the client try it on his PC today - I’d like to not actually use it at all, but we are migrating from MT and they had it there and are used to it.

    If I try some elimination testing, it’s not plugins I’m eliminating, is it?  I’m thinking extensions.

    Well, it could be either, but I’d start with plugins.

    I have had nothing but problems with this myself.  I have done everything to confirm it was installed properly and have even verified the code was showing up properly in the resulting HTML on the publish form.  I did find LG’s version worked more successfully but then I had a lot of formatting problems with the resulting HTML generated with TinyMCE, having lots of problems with spacing, so I just gave up.

    I did have good luck with “EDIT AREA” and use it for templates, but unfortunately it does not help WYSIWYG and laymen users, but it is a great help since it formats the page so it is 100% easier to work with.

    Hello.

    I’d like to shed some light as to what may be possibly causing anyone issues after having looked into this issue for some time.

    I am using:

    * ExpressionEngine 1.6.1
    * TinyMCE 2.1.3
    * TinyMCE v.1.1.8

    * Windows XP
    * FireFox 2.0+

    I noticed that if you set the Field Type of a field to “WYSIWYG” -AND- set the Show this field by default? option to “No” THEN YOU ARE GOING TO RUN INTO PROBLEMS IN FIREFOX (AND SAFARI FOR WINDOWS)!

    Without going into all the cases that occurred, the general rule is to have WYSIWYG fields shown by default, meaning the “Show this field by default” option should be set to “Yes”.  If you have multiple WYSIWYG fields, some shown by default and some not shown by default, TinyMCE will not convert SOME OR ALL of the text areas into TinyMCE as it is supposed to.  I am sure this is a deep JavaScript and FireFox related issue (I don’t get any errors in the JavaScript console either).  This issue also occurs on Safari 3.0 for Windows.

    On the other hand, this issue will not occur on IE6 (haven’t tested 7) and Opera 9.21.

    Hope this helps anyone.

    By the way, I suggest that the EE core developers look into the field show/hide toggle when editing a post… it may need to be tweaked in order for this issue to be fixed for FireFox and Safari.

    This is a great find.  But unfortunately I don’t think it was what was causing me grief.  I tried the full non-field level version of TinyMCE Extension without any sort of consistency.  The field one works fairly well but I think I ran into some problems from time to time.

    Just ran into this problem myself and I found this http://tishowicode.wordpress.com/2008/03/25/tinymce-r-has-no-properties/ which sorts out the problem (as far as I can tell without any other side effects).

    Could you point me to the correct directions for installing TinyMCE.  I can’t figure out from their documentation how to install it on EE.  I am an EEHosting customer.  Reading above, it seems like there must be EE documentation for this posted somewhere.  Can’t you help me know the best way to implement it?

    craiguffman, TinyMCE is somewhat ‘standalone’- and there are two extensions I know of that you can use to integrate it into EE’s control panel.

    1.  TinyMCE extension;
    2.  LG TinyMCE Custom Field.

    Both are available in the add-on area, which is where I linked you.  So- first decide which you want to use.  Then it’s generally a matter of following the specific instructions for the one you pick.

    Which one are you trying right now?  And can you walk me through what you’ve done and where you’re getting stuck?

    Thanks, Robin and Sue. I did find the EEWiki, but the instructions don’t seem real clear to me.

    Here’s what I understand and what I have done.

    I downloaded lg-tinymce v1.3.2.  His instructions said you have to first install TinyMCE since his extension simply enhances TinyMCE.  So I downloaded TinyMCE.  That gives me a folder named TinyMCE with two folders: examples and jscripts, In the latter, I found another folder named Tiny_MCE with four folders: langs, plugins, themes, and utils.

    I uploaded the lg-tinymce extension. It appears in the Extension manager.  So far, so good.

    I created a folder names ‘scripts’ in the directory where my path.php file is located.  I uploaded the entire tinymce folder to the scripts folder, which is what the wiki says to do (actually, it’s ambiguous; the instructions simply say to put tinymce in that folder but don’t really specify if they mean the containing folder called tinymce or the subordinate folder in jscrips called tiny_mce or some other file.  So I ended up trying both of these options.

    The extension did not appear in the Extension manager in any case.  On a whim, I guessed that the lg extension is what makes tinymce work with EE, so I clicked on Settings for lg_tinymce.  I got the following error message:

    “Unable to load the following language file:

    /lang.lg_tinymce.php”

    I got this same error in both efforts above (when I installed the entire tinymce folder in the scripts directory and when I copied the subordinate tiny_mce folder in the scripts directory).

    I guessed that i was supposed to copy the English file from the langs folder into the system/language folder based on the instructions here: http://expressionengine.com/docs/cp/admin/utilities/extension_manager.html

    But that did not work either.

    The documentation seems quite confusing.

    As though it is not obvious, I am not a programmer and know just enough to be dangerous.  From my viewpoint the wiki documentation for this seems quite ambiguous.

    skydog - this is a third party extension but we’ll see if we can get you through this.  In the extension download (not the TinyMCE files) there should be a file called lang.lg_tinymce.php.  Do you see that? You need to upload it to /system/language/english.

    Thanks Lisa.  Here’s the status after your guided discovery:

    I successfully created a WYSIWYG field and saw the most basic editor.  Tested fine.

    I noted two issues:

    1.  If I turn on the LG compressor in the Extension settings, the editor does not open when I view the field in publish.
    2.  I could see no way to turn on the more comprehensive editor that is on the TinyMCE demo.

    I am using a Mac with Safari and Firefox, EE v1.64.

    Any ideas on #1 and #2?

    Thanks,
    Craig
