Sorry I can’t talk you out of it either. I am not willing to switch to AT&T;and their crappy service. So the ipod Touch is exactly what I am looking for. I think it looks like a great device and I will be buying one really shortly.

I am now the proud owner of an iPhone. Its great and the service I’m getting from AT&T;remains stellar. I’m actually getting a clearer signal and in places I hadn’t before. I suppose the antenna is better than my previous phone.

    Thanks for all the input!!

Yes, I was confused:)  Congratulations… I see you changed your mind and don’t sound disappointed.  I’m still in love with mine after all this time.

Still love my iPhone, its the best portable internet/phone experience I have had yet.  Since the early 90’s I have been with just about every major phone carrier, and I actually generally have hated them all, I have not found AT&T;/Cingular any better/worse than any others.  I did not have to switch to AT&T;as already used them for our business cell phone service.  I will say that I get FAR FAR better phone reception on the iPhone then any of the Nokia, Moto phones I have used in recent times. Even on Edge the speed of the iPhone processing stuff like web pages exceeds the “fast” G3 Verizon network my Treo 650 was on, then having to wait for the slow little Treo to try and vaguely display the web page…  Again, best mobile device I have owned yet.

The only complaint I have that I find unacceptable is the call volume.  It’s just not loud enough if there is noise around you.  This is true for the speaker phone as well.  Does anyone else share this sentiment?

I use it all of the time in loud environments like internet data centers, city streets (re: buses, cars, etc), the local Irish pub, and while I usually am on a bluetooth headset there are many times I simply answer it.  Only thing is because of the flat surface I have found you need to make sure the ear speaker is in the correct place for best hearing.  I never use speaker phones in loud environments but sitting in a room with a couple people gathered around it has worked well.

What you describe is simply not possible with any of the three iPhones in my family.  Excluding the headset, it takes holding the phone directly to our ear and holding our other hand over our other ear to be able to hear anything in a noisy environment.  As far as speaker phone with people gathered around… forget about it, we can’t do that.  We have to hold the speaker end up to our ear to even use it.  I use it quite a bit when listening to voice mail.

I’ve often wondered if there was something wrong with mine in this regard. I’m not hard of hearing, so something is up.  It’s strange because I’ve had the same results on all three phones.

Hmm weird, I know 4 people personally with iPhones and two so far for our staff and no volume problems, the speaker phone has been more than loud enough.  Sounds silly, but I assume your issues are even with the phones at max volume?

Yeah, I have the volume up.  I guess it’s somewhat subjective because I’ve heard people say it’s loud enough when they heard mine.  Although, I heard a friends Nokia the other day and it was amazing what volume level it could achieve.  If the iPhone is a 3 to 4 at top volume, this nokia was a 15.  It was so much better.

I may take it to the Apple store and see what they think… since the Apple store is so loud, it will be a good test for them:)
