I’m rationalizing buying it because I’m going to Ireland in October and it would be so handy for the trip. Music/movies for the plane ride, maps and websites when connected to wifi - what a great travel mate right? Ugh.

I was also thinking about getting a Blackjack, since it would probably offer the same capabilities. However, would it work over there?

I take it an iPhone is out of the question because you aren’t with AT&T;?  If an iPhone were in the running, I’d suggest iPhone especially with the new $200 price drop!!  Truly, I’d suggest changing carriers just to use the iPhone.  It’s that cool.

The Touch looks great for a travel mate, but why in the world did they not include email?

but why in the world did they not include email?

I think it will be released shortly…no reason for them not to.

I think that the iPhone dev was really rushed, then they branched it for the iPod touch…now they are in clean up mode. Once that is done, the apps should be unified in my mind.

However, I wanted all my music and photos to fit on one device, so I just bought the 80G iPod classic.

As an iPhone owner, I say get the Touch if you don’t need the phone. They’re both wonderful devices. Fun to use and practical.

So, I’m talking you in to getting one. Sorry. 😛

How is the network speed (non-wifi) on the iphone?

It’s OK for email and light browsing and it depends on where you are. Sometimes EDGE really sucks and other times it is pretty speedy (for EDGE). I find it completely usuable when wifi isn’t around.

Browsing and google maps is pretty painful to me.  YouTube (believe it or not) and email are very acceptable.

Only 16Gb of storage compared to 80gb or 160gb. That should talk you out of it.

I’m going for the iPhone and the 160GB iPod Classic.  I already wanted an iPhone anyway, but was considering the iPod Touch, until I realized its pretty much the same price as the iPhone, just without phone services. It might not be until October, cause I need to get a new laptop as well, but those two puppies are coming to mamma.

Oh, I’m sorry, what I meant was, why would you get an iPod Touch. Man up, you don’t need one. 😊

iPod Touch is exactly what I was hoping for. They don’t have AT&T;services in the area I’m moving to so the next best thing is portable wi-fi device. woot!

Maybe one day they will open the iPhone up for different service.  AT&T;‘s customer service sucks.  It really has dampened the overall iPhone experience just a little.  We have three iPhone’s in the family.  My first bill was $180 and I’m on the $99 plan.  I’m not one to carefully examine my bill each month, but after reading some stories, I decided I better… Sure enough, there was two reoccurring charges of $10 and some change for a total of $21 tacked on to my bill.  When I called ATT customer service, they were adamant that I subscribed to a third party service.  Upon my insistence that I hadn’t subscribed to a third party service, they agreed to remove it from my bill.  While the guy was removing it from my bill (several minutes later), I said, “who in the world’s service is Thumbplay” and he replied that they had been having trouble with them on their billing.  This completely contradicted my original question/answer which was “why do I have a $10 x 2 on my phone bill” and he explained that I had subscribed to their service and he said I was responsible to pay it.  The conversation continued and he maintained that I had to pay for the first two months of this service for Thumbplay and in three months I would see a credit on my account.  Needless to say, I’m not paying for the service I didn’t subscribe to.

Of the three iPhones in our family…  All three of them had a similar charge on their bill.

What does the iPod touch use for internet service?

anyway, that ended up in a rant.  sorry.

I think AT&T;is just the norm in telcom, Verizon is no better when it comes to service…uhhhh, I better not even get started on that.

The Touch uses WiFi fr internet access.

I’ve used AT&T;for 3 years and haven’t had a problem. I really can’t do the iphone until it has 3g.

How is the video watching experience on the current ipod?
