Man I am needing some new inspiration. I like to listen to music while I code. I usualy have some mix of 30 Seconds to Mars, VNV Nation, The Cure, or linkin park blasting while designing and coding. What is your poison of choice?

There was a similar thread on CI’s forums not too long ago, and I quote my response there:

    For deep code spelunking:
    Digitally Imported‘s Chillout station.
    Younger Brother
    OTT
    Shpongle
BT (This Binary Universe in particular)
    Yoshida Brothers
    Massive Attack
    Lemon Jelly

But I have 705 artists in my iTunes library across 488 albums, with a range from Delores O’Riordan to System of a Down, so if the occasion suites, moreso with light work, I’ll play whatever.  I have no rap or country except what Weird Al covers, but ever other genre is sufficiently available.

80s, 90s, and folk music, with a not-so rare smattering of musicals.

    😉

I do have rap *and* country, plus a ton of bluegrass, and often play on shuffle, so I hear a lot of very odd stuff come up.

Lisa, have you heard the Jekyll & Hyde CD? Awesome…

And Derek, i dig the Massive Attack and BT. I dig my electronica hard. Propellerheads have some good music. Havent heard of some of the others you suggested…

<Marcus leaves to go download some music… >

Is this real, or are you making fun of my choice of music, Marcus? *grins*  I have only one personality, I’ve squashed the others…

Well, since I operate an online jazz station, I listen to… well, jazz.. On weekends my station features Latin jazz, and world music.. I’m gradually transferring that site from joomla to EE..

Lisa, geesh give a guy some credit. I studied music at James Madison (voice) for a bit before realizing that it was not something I wanted to do forever. Jekyll and Hyde is my favorite musical. And yes… straight guys can love musicals…  😉

TheWig, gotta name some artists. My dad got me big into Brazillian Jazz. I could use some new names…

New names on today’s Brazilian jazz scene are Hendrick Meurkens, He plays a mean harmonica and is thought of as the new toots thieleman.  Also a young Brazilian cat named Sandro Alberts.

    Depends on the mood.

But I find myself listening to a lot of Sasha.

For those of you who like their music streaming (and can’t or won’t use Pandora for some reason), I recommend deezer.com, a new French site with a good selection and no registration required.
