With EE 1.6 I am looking how to get the member notified by email he has been registered when the subscription is driven by the admin using
CP Home ›  Admin ›  Members and Groups ›  Register a New Member

Basically, you can’t. You may be able to do this by creating an extension that would do the mailing.

You may want to add a Feature Request for this, or find an existing request and add your support.

Thanks for the reply which is wery clear !
Probably I will add a Feature Request.

By now I found something as a “medium strategy”, registering members by admin as “Pending” and then from
Admin ›  Members and Groups ›  Activate Pending Members
using the “Activate Selected Members” with the option “Send email notification to each person”.

At the moment the member(s) is(are) activated but the email never reach them !

Hm- clever workaround.  But are you still running into a problem?  When you activate the member, the email isn’t received?  If so- try sending an email via the communicate tab- do those get through?

I tested via the communicate tab and got the message.
Confirmation message “Your email has been sent”
and 12 SQL queries (I set the Display Queries on in Admin ›  System Preferences ›  Output and Debugging Preferences)

I must add for information (may be useful ...) that “Force URL query strings” is set to “yes” due the host server parameters.

But more importantly, did you *receive* the email?

Is there anything the users who aren’t receiving the emails have in common? AOL users perhaps? There can be issues in receiving mail for those users.

No, I dont receive the email.

At the moment we are preparing a new installation with the customer, consequently there are no users.

Since last message I made an other testing installation, same host etc except directory, no change after installation and test again.

    Email are sent and received.
Although we have already checked everything (...) we are going to compare and re-check parameters.

Any pointers to help in such circumstances ?

You might have a look at this kb entry for some troubleshooting tips. =)

Thank you, but already got, please refer former step.

My concern is that there is not so many parameters to set for email managing.

    Comparison is not yet over.

Are you sure that you have your webmaster email set correctly, and that the emails are not being marked as spam?

That is really the only thing to check, as the KB article indicates, once EE has shown you that error it has handed off the email to your server and is no longer involved - it is something to check with your host at that point.

Do you mean “Return email address for auto-generated emails” ?

that’s the one: empty ! (for unknown reason, of course…)

    Thanks Lisa, for the help.

From this experience a few comments.

1/ email adress for « Return email address for auto-generated emails » is automaticaly set during the installation procedure but can be cancelled later although it is clearly pointed out that « If you leave this blank, many email servers will consider your email spam ».
As members administration is a great feature of EE, if we infortunately withdraw this email adress we loss all benefit and spent time and disturb others by questions.

As I see in the Preferences Members that some mistyping are impossible due to red warning message,  as for instance
The following path you submitted is not valid:
    /home/domain/www/demo/images/uploads/demo/

and update is impossible unless the parameter is set correctly,
my point of view should be to grant this email adress with the same advantage.

2/ Suggest to improve the above kb entry and replace

Solution: There are a few troubleshooting steps to take in this instance.
Go to Admin -> System Preferences -> Email Configuration and change Enable Email Debugging? to “On”

3/ I looked for information about using « from » header in PHP mail function and I don’t find reason why it would be useful to keep this email adress blank instead of making the email adress field mandatory.

4/ Depending upon clarification I suggest myself to go for a FR about that.

    Thanks again Jim

Hi, Jim - yes, please do post an FR.  I agree with your suggestion about the KB and I’ll add a line about the email address.  Thank you =)
