    Hello

I recently added Multiple Site Manager to EE and added a new site.

However, i now can’t login on certain browsers - (Safari 2.0.4 on Mac, IE on Windows XP) whilst others work fine (IE 5.2 Mac, Firefox Windows XP). The problem dissappears when i disable MSM in system prefs.

If I remain logged in using Safari after re-enabling MSM, i can create a new site and have it display in the Sites tab, but can’t select it and have it display in the breadcrumb to edit. It just defaults to my default site instead. Strangley using IE 5.2 on Mac i can switch between editing the two sites fine (but lots of other functionality dissappears so this is not really a workaround)

    I’m using 1.6.0. Build 20070622.

    Thanks

Odd- searched around trying to find other reports of this, but didn’t.  Are you using sessions or cookies or both in the cp security settings?  (Can check in ‘Admin- System Prefs- Security Settings).  I think I’d try it using sessions only and see if that matters- logging out and clearing cookies after making the switch.

I did check the build log and didn’t see mention of a related fix, but before digging too deep, I’d also suggest a build upgrade.  It’s quick, makes sure we’re all on the same page, and might be the fix even though I didn’t spot anything in the change log.  (There have been several new builds released since 0622, so it’s worth it.)

    Hi

I’ve carried out a build upgrade to 20070708 and also changed Control Panel Session Type and User Session Type to Session Only.

This seems to have fixed the login problem i was having (under Safari at least).

However, i still can’t change the site i am editing in Safari. If i select Site2 from the Sites tab it just defaults to displaying info from Site1 and displaying Site1 in the breadcrumb. I’ve tried resetting Safari.

As before, in IE on Mac, I can still change which site i am editing, but other options such as ‘Create new template group’ are completely missing etc and i’d rather not have to rely on IE as main browser. Not tried it under Windows as yet.

Other info which might be useful. I’m using Cyberduck as my FTP client - could it be a file permissions problem? Noticed when i backed up my config.php file that ‘allow_extensions’ was set to ‘n’.

    Thanks

    Hi, Hamish—

What version of Safari are you running?

Cyberduck used to have an issue setting permissions to 000 - I’m not sure if this is still an issue but it locked me out of several files when I used it.

I use Safari 2 and don’t have this problem at all, so we’ll need to figure out what is different about your setup. Are you running any safari enhancments, such as Saft?

Also, have you tried replacing all the files in your CP?  Especially the language and theme folders?

    Hi Lisa

Setup here is Safari 2.0.4 - i’m running OS 10.4.8 and the Safari 3 Beta requires 10.4.9 otherwise i’d try that - although as you say, your Safari 2.0 runs OK without this problem.

Uploaded Language folder after recent build update, and just replaced Themes folder but still same problem.

No other enhancements such as Saft etc. I’ll try it on a few other browsers/machines and see if i can determine whether it’s particular to my machine or not.

Anything else i should look out for?

    Thanks

If you want to send CP information my way, I don’t feel it’s time yet that we need to look around, but I can at least help you confirm if it’s EE or your machine.  I’d need URL, superadmin ID and password.

You have some very, very odd things going on over there - it’s definitely not your machine, something is up either with EE or your host.  I think the quicklinks image is a symptom - go to your domain and append this:

    themes/cp_global_images/edit_quicklinks.png

You’ll see that it doesn’t bring up the image and it doesn’t 404 - it’s calling EE.  Can you post the contents of your .htaccess file here, please?

    Hi Lisa

In my htaccess file i’ve used the ‘Exclude List’ method of removing the site/index.php as described in the wiki here

    So the contents are:

    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteCond $1 !^(global|images|themes|expressionengine|nameofsystemfolder|robots\.txt|index\.php).*
    RewriteRule ^(.*) index.php/$1 [NC,L]

It previously also contained |site (the name of the home template group) but i’ve just removed this having re-read the instructions not to do this in the wiki article.

BTW checked Firefox on Windows and it allows editing of the second site fine

    Thanks

Can you do a test? Remove the .htaccess for now and try again in Safari and see if it works? Also see if th eimages appear correctly, as I suspect they are related.

Well… I’m the one of them :( I’m using latest build of EE and just installed Multiple Site Manager. After that I cannot login any more in my Firefox v.2.005 browser (latest one). What should I do now? Using another browser, like Opera v.9.21, is no problem at all. But I’d like to use my Firefox. Please, help.

Can you login from the second domain?

No. Ironically it shows me that on second domain I’m already login. I tried to logout from there, but no lack – it just redirects me to main site and that all. After that I tried login to main site in Firefox, just in case to see a miracle. And I sow it! No more login problems. I don’t know what to say. It gotta be some kind of glitch, ‘case I’m nor crazy.

    So is it okay again?

    So is it okay again?

No! Well… still same problem! Cannot login in Firefox. After I played a little on second domain, trying to logout from permanent login there, I finally get ability to login to main domain. But after a couple of attempts to logout and back login there I’m completely losing ability to login. The only solution – go to second domain and play again. Frankly it is not fanny :(
