Tried to ask some pre-sales questions last week and got no reply. Perspective client also tried a few times and then I mailed every day since…nada. Client gone elsewhere.

Wondering what’s going on? Are they closed down now?

This doesn’t sounds correct at all. I posted this link to my contact at EngineHosting so they can respond directly.

We are very much alive. I handle the pre-sales questions, too. That is so odd. Email me directly at laurie at enginehosting.com. I’ll check the spam bins.

I was wondering the same thing, actually. When I called EngineHosting a couple of weeks ago and got the answering machine, your xmas holiday message was still up. Also, I’ve sent an email to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) about another account and haven’t gotten a reply for a couple of days.

Our sites on EH are still running, so I know you’re not dead! But I’d love to hear from you….

I’m the one that turns the after hours messages off and on, besides handling the sales@ emails. I’m not seeing any email from a “Rob” in the sales emails. Can you email me directly? laurie at enginehosting.com

We have just been in touch with Engine Hosting today about some technical issues, and they were mostly helpful, and they seem to still exist.

I was somewhat taken aback, though, by their response to my issue with an apparent login/lockout problem (posted separately here). We simply want to be able to work with our EE account, and the tech replied:

Unfortunately in regards to ExpressionEngine logins as this is web application we don’t track, nor manage your logins.  ExpressionEngine.com may hopefully be able to assist with getting logged into ExpressionEngine though.

As a company who seemingly partially-named themselves after EE, for them to distance themselves from this “web application we don’t track,” I was really surprised to get that kind of non-answer.

EE lockout issues are absolutely not the responsibility of the web host. They are in charge of the server, not the web app. Their servers are fine-tuned for EE but they will not be getting intimate with your EE install. No host will unless it’s hosted by your developer. This is regular operating procedure anywhere.

Personally, I would be a little concerned if my website host had access to the logins for my websites.  Often I’ve seen a host go above and beyond their duties to help how they can, but this is one area that they will (and should) steer clear of.

Totally agree with @MediaGirl on this one. I would be horrified if my host (EngineHost or otherwise) tracked my EE logins. The do, and should, track direct access to the server, but not my EE installation.

OK, OK, I get it…thanks everyone. I humbly retract my statement that “Engine” hosting should help us with a problem that isn’t in their “engine.”

Since you are all so helpful, would you mind coming over to this post over here…

...and apply some of this helpfulness? I don’t expect anyone to hack our database and solve the problem, but at least knowing where to look would be really nice. And if someone can translate “7fffffffffffffff minutes” into actual hours or weeks or days, that would be nice to know, too! 😊

    Thanks,

Hope you’ve got a book to read.

We are very much alive and well, and been very busy too with conference sponsorships, and larger projects like http://arcustech.com/

If we went away we would impact thousands and thousands of clients large and small, along with a good chunk of the EE community. Devot-ee, EEPodcast, Show-EE, Director-EE, EEInsider, Train-EE and add-on devs like Pixel and Tonic, Solspace to name just a few…

With that said, with EngineHosting associated for 10+ years with EllisLab/ExpressionEngine, I did want to point out really all php applications are Zend Engine powered - http://www.zend.com/en/company/community/php/ , its what makes PHP work and a better description of EngineHosting’s actual focus, php application hosting.

Thanks all.  I also posted in your other support thread about a possible way of overriding both the password lockout and the length of lockout.

    Exactly.
Might I add, as a long-time EngineHosting client, that they are very much alive and kicking, support is (and has always been) prompt, courteous and professional.

My experiences and support from EH have been mostly excellent over the past five years or so, with one or two exceptions.

I had an unpleasant experience today in that a domain I have at EngineInternet, showing Auto-Renew as ‘ON’ failed to renew. This happened on the back of several earlier mails to support about this very issue.

I logged into the EngineInternet CP just under a week ago, after receiving a renewal reminder for our main domain, and was non-plussed as to why I would have received one with Auto-Renew turned on. I emailed support and had my mind put at ease by the response, but today the business owner phoned me - understandably very concerned - as the site was showing a ‘Domain Expired’ message.

For a company employing several people, relying on online enquiries for all revenue, this was not a good message to see. Particuarly as we are an African company, with many active clients in the US and Europe, who have paid us deposits, and who subsequently tend to return to browse the site.

Of course, a ‘Domain Expired’ message makes us look as though we have gone out of business, or who knows what.

Anyways, for the second time in the recent past I’m considering a new host, or at least reviewing my options. I was interested to see that Nevin / EH are involved with ArcusTech.

Could someone in the know (Nevin?) please clarify what the relationship there is, if any? EH and Arcus are clearly both hosting companies, and ArcusTech make mention of EE on their site.

Are there differentiating factors between the two, or do they both serve the same market? And if so, is it logical to assume that the newer, slicker looking (in terms of the website at least) operation will eventually supercede EH?
