On the post count request, I’ve personally not found that as a useful data point as prolificacy and quality aren’t the same. My intention was to use the vote up / down metrics for each user as a helpful indicator. If that were displayed with the poster, I’m curious if you would still want to know their post total?

Not so fussed about post total but would rather have it than not given the choice. What I think should be there is date of first joining. This would better address your point re prolificacy/quality as one could see how long someone had been contributing to the forums.

You have done nothing to combat the spam problem. Any potential customer will realize that the product and site is abandoned. How long before a basic “like” system is introduced? And I’m not talking about a “rating”.

That’s simply not true, we have dozens of spam prevention mechanisms in place for registration, commenting, the forums, and even access to our site. There’s simply no way to stop all of it, especially on a highly targeted high traffic site.

Can you explain what you mean bit a “like” system that’s not a “rating”? Do you mean Facebook? Or up voting of posts? The latter we have, in all forums related to community support or programming, where topics are mostly questions.

Whilst I agree with the sentiment and it isn’t possible to stop all spam I think it is more the non-removal of posts after substantial periods of time that gives the impression, at least to me, that the forum isn’t particularly active or maintained. For example to have the latest post be this one that was originally posted on November 7th isn’t great….

The problem as I see it with the current approach of removing post counts, signatures etc… and having no metrics visible is that you are removing a huge incentive to post and provide community support. Whilst post count is crude (a reputation system would be better) it is better than the current alternative.

Why keep meaningless ranks such as Summer Student and Grad Student while removing an actual useful metric? If somebody’s taking the time to contribute, that’s good to know.

Not a big fan of the new design for the site globally,  but you cannot please every one.
I wish we could have a choice of theme to use to read the forum.
Nothing complex just this one and the old one (my choice).

Thanks for the recent updates (post counts, avatars signatures etc…) and great stuff bringing back Core.
