I’m having problems with the file upload field when adding an entry. The file upload field shows the “Add File” link but when I click on it it just sends me to the top of the page and nothing happens. I’ve also noticed that there is a file upload box at the bottom of the page (shown in screenshot) and a javascript error occurs when the page loads (also shown).

It worked find with a previous version but has stopped working after I upgraded. I’ve compared all the files in system and themes folders with a freshly downloaded install of EE 2.4.0 in Beyond Compare and they both match apart form a couple of .js in themes presumably left from the previous install. Any ideas what went wrong?

    Hello cfenwick,

I am sorry to hear you are running into this problem.

What browser are you using? Chrome?

Can you try this same procedure in another browser and tell me if the issue is still present.

    Cheers,

At least part of this (the “nothing happens when I click Add File” issue) seems to be the same issue being discussed at http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/211004/ . At least in our case, it seems to be connected to user permissions. One of our users was experiencing the problem, and when I moved him from the Admins group to the Super Admins group, he no longer experienced the problem and was able to add files.

Shane, I’ve tried with FF10, with blank channel and 0 fields, same issue.

Any luck on this yet?  I have upgraded to 2.4.0 as well, I cannot upload from the file manager either.

I suppose this is a critical bug, isn’t it?

The work around is to upload via FTP and then resynchronize….  works however not something that I can put into production with my client.

I tried synchronising but still no luck. I’m using Chrome but the problem appears on other browsers. The problem also occurs if I’m a super admin. Is there a temporary way around this (apart form ftp)?

The problem is the same with IE, Chrome, FF and Safari.  I remember that there was an issue in 2.2 where you would click upload and the spinner would just keep spinning.  However, this seems to be a different issue now.

After looking at the console output in chrome….  I have fixed the issue on my installation.  I use the “Template Variables” accessory on most of my sites.  Great tool.  However, I had not updated the “Template Variables”  Accessory on this installation.  as soon as I did I was able to upload files without issue.  sorry for getting folks wound up without checking that I had the latest updates installed.

That’s interesting. I’m not using that accessory on my site but I’m using other add-ons. Is there an easy way to check for updates for add-ons in EE other than checking each individually?  Here is my list of add-ons:

    Modules:
    Channel version 2.0.1
    Comment version 2.2
    Email version 2
    Emoticon version 2
    File version 1.0.0

    jQuery version 1
    Member version 2.1
    Query version 2
    RSS version 2
    Search version 2.1
    Statistics version 2
    Wygwam version 2.3.1

    Accessories:
    ExpressionEngine Info (1.0)

    Plugins:
    breadcrumb version Beta 1
    Character Limiter version 1.1
    Fetch Current URI version 1.0.0
    ImageSizer version 2.6.4
    LG Template Info version 1.0.0
    Magpie RSS Parser version 1.3.5
    Parse URL version 1.2.1
    eMarketSouth String Plugin version 1.2.0
    Strip_HTML version 1.1.2
    Word Limiter version 1.1

I manually went through all of my add-ons.  I seem to remember there was something to check for updates.  However, I was unable to find it and I may have been confusing it with a Wordpress site.  Sorry, not much help.

    cfenwick,

yes you would need to check each of the third_party add-ons separately to see if they need upgrading. All of your first party add-ons will be up to date as they are included in the ExpressionEngine zip file. After checking your add-ons and updating the ones that need updating please let me know if this issue persists.

    Sean
